Removal

DRIVE SHAFT: FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY: REMOVAL

1. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT MAT SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal

2. REMOVE BATTERY SERVICE HOLE COVER LH Removal

3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

(a) Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal Removal.

4. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL

5. REMOVE FRONT AXLE SHAFT NUT LH

(a) Using SST and a hammer, release the staked part of the front axle shaft nut.





SST : 09930-00010

NOTICE:
Release the staked part of the nut completely, otherwise the threads of the drive shaft may be damaged.

(b) While applying the brakes, remove the front axle shaft nut.

6. REMOVE FRONT AXLE SHAFT NUT RH

Use the same procedures described for the LH side.

7. DISCONNECT FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH





(a) Remove the bolt and disconnect the flexible hose from the knuckle.





(b) Remove the 2 bolts and disc brake caliper from the knuckle.

8. DISCONNECT FRONT DISC BRAKE PAD WEAR INDICATOR WIRE ASSEMBLY RH (for RH Side)





(a) Disconnect the connector.

(b) Detach the wire harness clamp.

9. DISCONNECT FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY RH

Use the same procedures described for the LH side.

10. REMOVE FRONT DISC Removal

11. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE DUST COVER LH Removal

12. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE DUST COVER RH

HINT
Use the same procedures described for the LH side.

13. DISCONNECT SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE





(a) LH:

(1) Disconnect the connector from the front speed sensor.

(2) Remove the bolt and sensor clamp.





(b) RH:

(1) Disconnect the connector from the front speed sensor.

(2) Remove the bolt and sensor clamp.

14. REMOVE FRONT SPEED SENSOR LH





(a) Remove the bolt and sensor.

NOTICE:
* Be careful not to damage the speed sensor.
* Prevent foreign matter from adhering to the speed sensor.
15. REMOVE FRONT SPEED SENSOR RH

Use the same procedures described for the LH side.

16. DISCONNECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY LH Removal

17. DISCONNECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY RH

Use the same procedures described for the LH side.

18. DISCONNECT FRONT NO. 1 SUSPENSION UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY LH Removal

19. DISCONNECT FRONT NO. 1 SUSPENSION UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY RH

Use the same procedures described for the LH side.

20. DISCONNECT FRONT NO. 2 SUSPENSION UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY LH Removal

21. DISCONNECT FRONT NO. 2 SUSPENSION UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY RH

HINT
Use the same procedures described for the LH side.

22. REMOVE FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY LH Removal

23. REMOVE FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY RH

HINT
Use the same procedures described for the LH side.

24. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY LH

(a) Using SST, remove the front drive shaft assembly.

NOTICE:
* Be careful not to damage the drive shaft boot, dust cover and oil seal.
* Be careful not to drop the drive shaft assembly.
25. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY RH





(a) Remove the bolt and disconnect the wire harness bracket.

(b) Using water pump pliers, remove the bearing bracket hole snap ring.





(c) Remove the bolt and front drive shaft assembly from the drive shaft bearing bracket.

NOTICE:
* Be careful not to damage the drive shaft boot, dust cover and oil seal.
* Be careful not to drop the drive shaft assembly.
26. INSPECT FRONT DRIVE SHAFT

(a) Check that there is no excessive play in the outboard joint.





(b) Check that the inboard joint slides smoothly in the thrust direction.

(c) Check that there is no excessive play in the radial directions of the inboard joint.

(d) Check the boot for damage.
