Radiator Cooling Fan: Testing and Inspection
2GR-FSE COOLING: COOLING FAN SYSTEM: ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. CHECK COOLING FAN SYSTEM
(a) Put the vehicle in the following conditions.
(1) The engine switch is off.
(2) The engine coolant temperature is less than 92°C (198°F).
(3) The battery voltage is between 11 and 14 V.
(4) The A/C switch is OFF.
(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG) and wait for approximately 10 seconds. Check that the fan stops.
(c) Start the engine. Check that the fan stops with the engine idling.
HINT
* Make sure that the engine coolant temperature is less than 92°C (198°F).
* Turn the A/C switch OFF.
(d) Connect the 400 A prove of an ammeter to the No. 1 cooling fan motor harness (M+), and then No. 2 cooling fan motor harness (S+).
(e) Check that the fan operates when the A/C switch is turned ON (MAX COOL and the magnet clutch is operating).

HINT
Make sure that the engine coolant temperature is less than 92°C (198°F).
(f) Check that the fan operates when the engine coolant temperature sensor connector is disconnected.
Standard current:
(g) After the engine is warmed up, check that the fan operates as shown in the illustration below.
HINT
* The engine coolant temperature at which the fan starts operating is approximately 94°C (201°F).
* This system can also be checked using the Techstream.
* Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Coolant Temp.
