U0110-657 - Lost Communication With Driver Motor Control Module
L110 HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL: HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM: U0110-159,U0110-656,U0110-657: Lost Communication with Driver Motor Control Module
U0110-657 - Lost Communication with Driver Motor Control Module
DESCRIPTION
* For a description of the inverter with converter assembly, P0A78.
The inverter with converter assembly (MG ECU) controls MG2 based on commands from the hybrid vehicle control ECU via serial communication.
The inverter with converter assembly (MG ECU) monitors communication data and detects malfunctions.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
CAUTION:
* Before inspecting the high-voltage system or disconnecting the low voltage connector of the inverter with converter assembly, take safety precautions such as wearing insulated gloves and removing the service plug grip to prevent electrical shocks. After removing the service plug grip, put it in your pocket to prevent other technicians from accidentally reconnecting it while you are working on the high-voltage system.
* After disconnecting the service plug grip, wait for at least 10 minutes before touching any of the high-voltage connectors or terminals. After waiting, check the voltage at the inspection point in the inverter with converter assembly. The voltage should be 0 V before beginning work.
NOTICE:
* If any of U0110-159, 656 or 657 are detected, clearing DTCs using the Techstream will cause DTC P0A1B-788 (power source IC reset) to be output. Proceed to troubleshooting without considering this code.
* Before starting the following inspections, check the IGCT No. 2 fuse for continuity. If the fuse has continuity, perform the following inspections. If the fuse has no continuity, replace the IGCT No. 2 fuse and then turn the power switch on (READY). If the fuse does not burn out and no DTCs are stored by turning the power switch on (READY), the inspection regarding these DTCs is complete at this point. If the IGCT No. 2 fuse burns out again, replace the IGCT No. 2 fuse and the inverter with converter assembly.
HINT
Waiting for at least 10 minutes is required to discharge the high-voltage capacitor inside the inverter with converter assembly.
PROCEDURE
1. CLEAR DTC (HV)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).
(c) Read and record the DTCs and freeze frame data.
(d) Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
(e) Clear the DTCs.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
2. RECONFIRM DTC OUTPUT (HV)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).
(c) Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
(d) Check if DTCs are output.
Result:
DTC U0110-159, 160, 656 or 657 is output.
NO -- CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
YES -- Continue to next step.
3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT)
CAUTION:
Be sure to wear insulated gloves.
(a) Turn the power switch off and remove the service plug grip L110 Hybrid Vehicle Control System.
NOTICE:
After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair manual because this may cause a malfunction.
(b) Disconnect connector A60 from the inverter with converter assembly.
(c) Turn the power switch off.
(d) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:
(e) Turn the power switch on (IG).
(f) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:
NOTICE:
* Turning the power switch on (IG) with the low voltage connector of the inverter with converter assembly disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.
* If the result is not as specified, be sure to inspect the IGCT NO. 2 fuse for continuity. If there is no continuity, replace the IGCT NO. 2 fuse.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HV CONTROL ECU - INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY)
(a) Turn the power switch off.
(b) Disconnect connector A54 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
(c) Turn the power switch on (IG).
(d) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:
NOTICE:
Turning the power switch on (IG) with the low voltage connector of the inverter with converter assembly or hybrid vehicle control ECU connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.
(e) Turn the power switch off.
(f) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance (Check for open):
Standard resistance (Check for short):
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
5. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU
(a) Turn the power switch off.
(b) Connect the connector to the hybrid vehicle control ECU connector.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:
NG -- REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU Components
OK -- Continue to next step.
6. CHECK INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY
(a) Turn the power switch off.
(b) Connect the connector to the inverter with converter assembly.
(c) Disconnect connector A54 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
(d) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:
NG -- REPLACE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY
OK -- Continue to next step.
7. CHECK HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU
(a) Connect the hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors.
