PART 4

CAUTION:
When working with FIPG material, perform the following:

* Using a razor blade and gasket scraper, remove all the old FIPG material from the gasket surfaces.
* Thoroughly clean all components to remove any loose material.
* Clean both sealing surfaces with a non-residue solvent.
* Apply FIPG in a continuous line (width approximately 1 mm (0.0394 in.)) along the sealing surface.
* Parts must be assembled within 10 minutes of application. Otherwise, the FIPG material must be removed and reapplied.

79. REMOVE BRAKE PISTON RETURN SPRING SNAP RING

(a) Using a screwdriver, remove the brake piston return spring snap ring from the transmission case.





80. REMOVE BRAKE PISTON RETURN SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the brake piston return spring, No. 1 brake piston and No. 1 brake cylinder from the transmission case.





81. INSPECT BRAKE PISTON RETURN SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY Transmission Unit

82. REMOVE NO. 1 BRAKE PISTON

(a) Hold the No. 1 brake cylinder and apply compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2, 57 psi) to the No. 1 brake cylinder to remove the No. 1 brake piston.





HINT
If the piston does not pop out with compressed air, lift the piston out with needle-nose pliers.

(b) Remove the 2 O-rings from the No. 1 brake piston.

83. REMOVE NO. 2 BRAKE DISC

(a) Using a screwdriver, remove the No. 2 brake snap ring from the transmission case.





(b) Remove the 2 No. 2 brake flanges, brake piston return spring, 4 No. 2 brake discs and 3 No. 2 brake plates from the transmission case.

86. REMOVE NO. 2 BRAKE PISTON

(a) Hold the No. 2 brake piston and apply compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2, 57 psi) to the transmission case to remove the No. 2 brake piston and No. 2 brake cylinder.





HINT
If the piston does not pop out with compressed air, lift the piston out with needle-nose pliers.

(b) Remove the piston from the cylinder.

(c) Remove the 2 O-rings from the No. 2 brake piston.

87. REMOVE CENTER PLANETARY GEAR ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the center planetary gear assembly, planetary sun gear and No. 4 thrust bearing race from the transmission case.





88. INSPECT CENTER PLANETARY GEAR ASSEMBLY Transmission Unit

89. REMOVE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT

(a) Using SST, remove the snap ring from the transmission case.

(b) Remove the intermediate shaft with the No. 3 one-way clutch assembly from the transmission case.





90. INSPECT NO. 3 ONE-WAY CLUTCH ASSEMBLY Transmission Unit

91. REMOVE NO. 3 ONE-WAY CLUTCH ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the No. 3 one-way clutch assembly and one-way clutch inner race from the intermediate shaft.





92. REMOVE REAR PLANETARY RING GEAR FLANGE SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the No. 8 thrust bearing race, thrust needle roller bearing, No. 7 thrust bearing race and planetary ring gear flange from the intermediate shaft.

95. REMOVE BRAKE PLATE STOPPER SPRING

(a) Remove the brake plate stopper spring from the transmission case.





96. REMOVE NO. 4 BRAKE DISC

(a) Remove the sleeve, 4 No. 4 brake plates, 4 No. 4 brake discs and No. 4 brake flange from the transmission case.

97. INSPECT NO. 4 BRAKE DISC Transmission Unit

98. REMOVE REAR PLANETARY GEAR ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the rear planetary gear assembly from the transmission case.





(b) Remove the 2 thrust needle roller bearings from the rear planetary gear assembly.





(c) Remove the No. 9 thrust bearing race from the transmission case.





99. INSPECT REAR PLANETARY GEAR ASSEMBLY Transmission Unit

100. REMOVE 1ST AND REVERSE BRAKE RETURN SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Place SST on the 1st and reverse brake return spring sub-assembly and compress the brake return spring.

(b) Using SST, remove the 1st and reverse brake return spring shaft snap ring and brake return spring.

101. INSPECT 1ST AND REVERSE BRAKE RETURN SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY Transmission Unit

102. REMOVE 1ST AND REVERSE BRAKE PISTON

(a) Hold the 1st and reverse brake piston and blow compressed air (392 kPa, 4.0 kgf/cm2, 57 psi) into the transmission case to remove the 1st and reverse brake piston.





HINT
If the piston does not pop out with compressed air, lift the piston out with needle-nose pliers.

(b) Remove the brake apply tube from the piston.

(c) Remove the 1st and reverse brake piston O-ring from the brake piston.

103. REMOVE BRAKE REACTION SLEEVE

(a) Using SST, remove the brake reaction sleeve.

(b) Remove the 2 O-rings from the brake reaction sleeve.

104. REMOVE NO. 4 BRAKE PISTON

(a) Using SST, remove the No. 4 brake piston.
