DRIVE SHAFT / PROPELLER SHAFT: REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY: INSTALLATION
HINT
* Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
* The procedure listed below is for the LH side.
1. INSTALL HOLE SNAP RING
(a) Install a new hole snap ring.
2. INSTALL REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Coat the splines of the inboard joint shaft assembly with gear oil.
(b) Set the shaft snap ring with the opening side facing down.
(c) Align the shaft splines and install the drive shaft assembly with a brass bar and a hammer.
NOTICE:
* Make sure to tap in the drive shaft assembly using the edge on the inboard joint assembly as shown in the illustration.
* Be careful not to hit the end of the outboard joint assembly with a hammer.
* Be careful not to damage the drive shaft dust cover, boot or oil seal.
* Install the drive shaft assembly while keeping it level.
HINT
It is possible to determine if the inboard joint shaft is properly engaged (the shaft is in contact with the pinion shaft, and the snap ring is engaged in the pinion gear) based on the sound or feeling when the shaft is driven in.
3. INSTALL REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY Installation
4. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY Installation
5. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 1 UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY Installation
6. INSTALL TOE CONTROL LINK SUB-ASSEMBLY Installation
7. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 2 UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY Installation
8. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY Installation
9. INSTALL NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY Installation
10. APPLY HIGH TEMPERATURE GREASE Reassembly
11. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Reassembly
12. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY Reassembly
13. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY Reassembly
14. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET Reassembly
15. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING Reassembly
16. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING Reassembly
17. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE INSTALLATION Reassembly
18. INSTALL REAR SPEED SENSOR Installation
19. INSTALL REAR DISC Installation
20. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING HOLE PLUG
21. INSTALL REAR NO. 1 DISC BRAKE CALIPER PLATE Installation
22. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY Reassembly
23. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT
(a) Clean the threaded parts on the drive shaft and a new axle hub nut using a non-residue solvent.
NOTICE:
* Be sure to perform this work even when using a new drive shaft.
* Keep the threaded parts free of oil and foreign objects.
(b) Install the new rear axle shaft nut.
Torque : 290 Nm (2957 kgf-cm, 214 ft-lbf)
(c) Using a chisel and hammer, stake the rear axle shaft nut.

27. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 2 UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY Installation
28. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY Installation
29. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY Installation
30. INSTALL REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE Installation
31. INSTALL NO. 2 DIFFERENTIAL SUPPORT PROTECTOR Installation
32. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
Torque : 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf)
33. INSPECT AND ADJUST REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT
Rear Wheel Alignment
34. CHECK FOR SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
