How To Proceed With Troubleshooting





POWER STEERING: POWER STEERING SYSTEM: HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING

* Use these procedures to troubleshoot the power steering system.

1. VEHICLE BROUGHT TO WORKSHOP

NEXT -- Continue to next step.

2. INSPECT BATTERY VOLTAGE

Standard voltage:

11 to 14 V

If the voltage is below 11 V, recharge or replace the battery before proceeding.

3. INSPECT ELECTRIC POWER CONTROL SYSTEM*

(a) Using the Techstream, check the electric power control system's load control history Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures.

4. CHECK DTC AND FREEZE FRAME DATA*

(a) Record DTCs and freeze frame data.

NEXT -- Continue to next step.

5. CLEAR DTC AND FREEZE FRAME DATA*

NEXT -- Continue to next step.

6. PROBLEM SYMPTOM CONFIRMATION

8. CHECK DTC*

(a) Check for DTCs Power Steering System.

(b) Delete DTCs.

(c) Recheck for DTCs.

* Refer to the diagnostic trouble code chart if any DTCs are output.
* If any CAN communication system DTCs are output, perform troubleshooting on the CAN communication system first Diagnosis System.
* If communication to the power steering ECU is not established through the Techstream, inspect terminals CANH and CANL of the DLC3 and power steering ECU, and inspect the IG circuit of the power steering ECU.
