LIGHTING: LIGHTING SYSTEM: OPERATION CHECK
1. BEFORE PERFORMING TROUBLESHOOTING
(a) Basic inspection
(1) Inspect the battery voltage.
Standard voltage:
11 to 14 V
(b) Visually inspect for burned out lights, blown fuses, open or shorted wire harnesses, malfunctioning or partially connected connectors, etc.
HINT
If a discharge headlight bulb's condition cannot be determined through a visual check, replace with a normally functioning bulb or interchange the left and right bulbs and check its condition.
2. INSPECT INTELLIGENT AFS SYSTEM
(a) With the vehicle stopped and the engine start, check that the leveling motor and swivel motor initialization (initial position setting) is performed.
HINT
For the swivel motor, only perform the vehicle inner side movement inspection (facing forward -> facing inner side -> facing forward).
(b) Based on the vehicle condition, check that the intelligent AFS system operation starts and stops accordingly.
3. INSPECT FRONT DOME LIGHT CONTROL OPERATION
HINT
The front dome light control illuminates the lights below.
* Map light assembly
* power switch illumination
(a) With the power switch OFF, and all doors closed and locked, unlock a door. Check that the lights listed above illuminate for approximately 15 seconds, and then turn off. (*1)
(b) With the power switch OFF and all doors closed, open and close a door. Check that the lights listed above illuminate for approximately 15 seconds, and then turn off.
(c) With all doors closed, turn the power switch ON (IG or ACC), or turn the power switch from ON (IG) to OFF. Check that the lights listed above illuminate for approximately 15 seconds, and then turn off. (*2)
(d) For (*1) and (*2), before the lights listed above turn off, open a door. Check that the illumination continues. Then close the door and check that the lights remain illuminated for approximately 15 seconds from when the door was closed.
(e) With the power switch OFF and the lights listed above illuminated based on the timer control (approximately 15 seconds), close and lock all doors, or turn the power switch ON (IG or ACC). Check that the lights turn off.
4. INSPECT REAR ROOM LIGHT CONTROL OPERATION
(a) When a rear door is opened, check that either the right or left rear room light illuminates.
(b) When a rear door is closed, check that either the right or left rear room light turns off.
5. INSPECT SHIFT LIGHT (ROOF) CONTROL
NOTICE:
The related light is listed below.
* Map light assembly (shift light)
(a) Check that the condition described below illuminates the shift light.
(1) With the headlight dimmer switch assembly set to TAIL, the power switch is turned ON (ACC or IG), and the shift lever is moved to P.
(b) Check that the condition described below dims the shift light.
(1) With the headlight dimmer switch assembly set to TAIL, the power switch is turned ON (IG) and the shift lever is moved to a position other than P.
(c) Check that the condition described below turns off the shift light.
(1) The headlight dimmer switch assembly is turned OFF.
(2) Turn the power switch OFF.
6. INSPECT INTERIOR FOOT LIGHT CONTROL
NOTICE:
Perform this inspection with the customize parameter at the initial setting.
HINT
The related lights are listed below.
* No. 1 interior illumination light assembly (front interior foot light LH)
* No. 1 interior illumination light assembly (front interior foot light RH)
* Interior illumination light assembly RH (rear interior foot light RH)
* Interior illumination light assembly LH (rear interior foot light LH)
(a) Check that the either condition described below illuminates the interior foot light.
(1) A door is opened.
(2) The power switch is turned ON (IG) and the shift lever is moved to P.
(b) Check that the condition described below dims the interior foot light.
(1) The power switch is turned ON (IG) and the shift lever is moved a position other than P.
(c) Check that the condition described below illuminates the interior foot light for approximately 15 seconds, and then turns off the interior foot light.
(1) With the power switch OFF and a door open, the door is closed.
(d) Check that the condition described below turns off the interior foot light.
(1) With the power switch OFF, all doors are closed and locked.
7. INSPECT INSIDE HANDLE ILLUMINATION CONTROL
NOTICE:
Perform this inspection with the customize parameter at the initial setting.
HINT

* Front door inside handle illumination RH
* Front door inside handle illumination LH
* Rear door inside handle illumination RH
* Rear door inside handle illumination LH
(a) Check that either of the conditions described below illuminates the inside handle illumination.
(1) A door is opened.
(2) The power switch is turned ON (IG) and the shift lever is moved to P.
(b) Check that the condition described below dims the inside handle illumination.
(1) The power switch is turned ON (IG) and the shift lever is moved a position other than P.
(c) Check that the condition described below illuminates the inside handle illumination for approximately 15 seconds, and then turns off the inside handle illumination.
(1) With the power switch OFF and a door open, the door is closed.
(d) Check that the condition described below turns off the inside handle illumination.
(1) With the power switch OFF, all doors are closed and locked.
8. INSPECT COURTESY LIGHT CONTROL
HINT

(a) Check that the condition described below illuminates the courtesy light.
(1) A door is opened.
(b) Check that the condition described below turns off the courtesy light.
(1) A door is closed.
9. INSPECT DOOR MIRROR FOOT LIGHT CONTROL
NOTICE:
Perform this inspection with the customize parameter at the initial setting.
HINT
The related lights are listed below.
* Door mirror foot light LH
* Door mirror foot light RH
(a) Check that the condition described below illuminates the foot light.
(1) With the power switch OFF, a door is opened.
(b) Check that any of the conditions described below illuminates the foot light for approximately 15 seconds, and then turns off the foot light.
(1) The key ID certification area of the vehicle is entered.
(2) With the shift lever on P, a wireless, entry or key-linked unlock operation is performed.
(3) Turn the power switch from ON (IG) to OFF.
(4) With the power switch OFF and a door open, the door is closed.
(c) With the foot light illuminated, check that the condition described below turns off the shift light after 1approximately 5 seconds have passed.
(1) Open and close the driver or front passenger door.
(d) Check that either of the conditions described below turns off the foot light.
(1) With the power switch ON (IG), the shift lever is moved from P to a position other than P.
(2) A wireless, entry or key-linked lock operation is performed.
10. INSPECT AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM OPERATION
NOTICE:
Perform this inspection with the customize parameter at the initial setting.
(a) Turn the power switch ON (IG).
(b) Set the headlight dimmer switch assembly to AUTO.
Slowly cover the automatic light control sensor with a lightproof object, and check that the lights automatically illuminate.
OK:
Clearance lights illuminate, then headlights illuminate
(d) After illuminating the light, slowly move the lightproof object off of the automatic light control sensor, and check that the lights automatically turn off.
OK:
Headlights turn off, then clearance lights turn off
11. INSPECT AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM (ILLUMINATION, TURN OFF)
(a) Make the area around the automatic light control sensor dark to automatically illuminate the lights.
(b) Check that any of the conditions described below turns off the lights.
(1) The headlight dimmer switch assembly is turned OFF.
(2) The automatic light control sensor's surrounding area is brightened.
(3) With the power switch OFF, the driver door is opened.
(c) Make the area around the automatic light control sensor dark to automatically illuminate the lights.
(d) With the power switch OFF, open the driver door to turn off the lights.
(e) When the power switch is turned ON (IG), check that the lights turn on again.
12. INSPECT LIGHT AUTO TURN OFF SYSTEM
(a) Prepare the vehicle so that the power switch is ON (IG) and the driver door is closed.
(b) Set the headlight dimmer switch assembly to TAIL, HEAD or AUTO to illuminate the lights.
(c) Turn the power switch OFF and open the driver door. Check that the headlights and taillights turn off.
13. INSPECT HEADLIGHT CONTROL ECU (for HID Headlight)
(a) Perform the following illumination diagnosis when both of the following conditions are met: 1) the headlight control ECU is not visibly damaged, and 2) the headlight control ECU has been struck but is operating normally. If all of the following diagnosis results are normal, the headlight control ECU can be reused.
(1) Perform light illumination cold starts (10 minutes or more off, then illumination) and hot starts (15 minutes or more illuminated, 1 minute off, then illumination again) several times. Check that the lights illuminate normally.
(2) For 5 minutes immediately after a light illumination cold start (before the lights stabilize), visually check the illumination condition and check that the lights do not flicker or show signs of instability.
(3) Install bulbs that have approximately the same usage time, and illuminate the headlights for approximately 30 seconds. Check that the brightness of the left and right bulbs is approximately the same, and that the illumination is stable.
14. INSPECT AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAM SYSTEM
(a) Check the operation of the inner rear view mirror assembly indicator light.
(1) Turn the power switch ON (IG).
(2) Check that the inner rear view mirror assembly indicator light comes on.
(3) Press the inner rear view mirror assembly AUTO switch once.
(4) Check that the inner rear view mirror assembly indicator light goes off.
(5) Press the inner rear view mirror assembly AUTO switch once again.
(6) Check that the inner rear view mirror assembly indicator light comes on.
HINT
If the inner rear view mirror assembly indicator light flashes, turn the power switch OFF, and then turn the power switch ON (IG). If the inner rear view mirror assembly indicator light flashes continuously, replace the inner rear view mirror assembly.
(b) Check the operation of the automatic high beam indicator light.
(1) Turn the power switch on (IG).
(2) Move the shift lever to any position except R.
(3) Turn the light control switch to the AUTO position.
(4) Cover the automatic light control sensor to turn the low beam headlights on.
(5) Turn the dimmer switch to the high position.
(6) Check that the automatic high beam indicator comes on.
(c) Check the operation of the automatic high beam function.
(1) At night, when driving the vehicle with the automatic high beam system in standby mode, check that the headlights are changed from the low beams to the high beams automatically after a short delay when all of the following conditions are met:
The vehicle speed is more than 40 km/h (25 mph).
The area in front of the vehicle is dark.
There are no oncoming vehicles with headlights on.
There are no preceding vehicles with taillights on.
There are few street lights along the street ahead.
(2) At night, when driving the vehicle with the high beams turned on by the automatic high beam system, check that the automatic high beam system turns off the high beams and returns to standby mode when any of the following conditions are met:
The vehicle speed is less than 30 km/h (19 mph).
The level of ambient light is higher than a specified threshold.
There are oncoming vehicles with headlights on.
There are preceding vehicles with taillights on.
Light from the street lights ahead is higher than a specified threshold.
(d) Using the following procedure, the automatic high beam operation can be checked without driving the vehicle.
(1) Connect terminals 4 (CG) and 8 (LVL) of the DLC3 using SST.
SST : 09843-18040
(2) Turn the power switch ON (IG).
(3) Disconnect SST within 10 seconds after turning the power switch ON (IG).
(4) After more than 1 second and less than 10 seconds, connect terminals 4 (CG) and 8 (LVL) of the DLC3 using SST again.
(5) Check that the inner rear view mirror assembly indicator light flashes.
(6) Check that the low beams change to the high beams when the surrounding area is dark enough.
(7) Shine a flashlight, white LED or red LED on the camera built into the inner rear view mirror assembly.
(8) Check that the high beams change to the low beams.
NOTICE:
The high beams may not change to the low beams when the surrounding area is bright or due to on other lighting conditions. Therefore, this function check should not be used as the only method of determining if a malfunction is present (if parts need to be replaced).
15. INSPECT LANE CHANGE FLASHER SYSTEM
NOTICE:
Perform this inspection with the customize parameter at the initial setting.
(a) Turn the power switch ON (IG).
(b) Check that the turn signal light flashes a specified number of times when the turn signal switch is moved to the lane change position (it is not necessary to hold the switch).
(c) While the turn signal light is flashing after the turn signal switch is moved to the lane change position (it is not necessary to hold the switch), check that the turn signal light turns off after the turn signal switch is moved in the opposite direction.
16. INSPECT BATTERY SAVER
(a) Inside handle illumination
(1) With the power switch OFF and no vehicle condition changes, check that the lights illuminated by the inside handle illumination control remain illuminated for approximately 20 minutes, and then turn off.
HINT
When the light control operation conditions are met, the battery saver control is canceled.
(b) Interior foot light
(1) With the power switch OFF and no vehicle condition changes, check that the lights illuminated by the interior foot light control remain illuminated for approximately 20 minutes, and then turn off.
HINT
When the light control operation conditions are met, the battery saver control is canceled.
(c) Map light
(1) With the power switch ON (ACC) or OFF and no vehicle condition changes, check that the illuminated map light remains illuminated for approximately 20 seconds, and then turns off.
HINT
When the power switch is ON (IG), the battery saver control is canceled.
(d) Luggage compartment light
(1) With the power switch OFF, check that the illuminated luggage compartment light remains illuminated for approximately 30 minutes, and then turns off.
HINT
Within approximately 30 minutes after the illumination, if the power switch is turned ON (IG or ACC) or the luggage compartment door is closed, the battery saver control is canceled.
