Engine Immobilizer System
THEFT DETERRENT / KEYLESS ENTRY: ENGINE IMMOBILISER SYSTEM: PRECAUTION
NOTICE:
When disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, initialize the following systems after the cable is reconnected.
1. PRECAUTIONS WHEN USING TECHSTREAM
(a) When using the Techstream with the power switch off to troubleshoot: Connect the Techstream to the vehicle, and turn a courtesy light switch on and off at 1.5 second or less intervals until communication between the Techstream and vehicle begins.
(b) After all DTCs are cleared, check if the trouble occurs again 6 seconds after turning the power switch on (IG).
2. PRECAUTIONS FOR EACH FUNCTION
(a) Precautions for the key:
* The key is a precision instrument. Be sure to observe the following:
(1) Do not drop or strike the key.
(2) Do not keep the key in a high temperature area for a long time.
(3) Do not use an ultrasonic washing machine to clean the key.
(4) Keep the key away from magnets or magnetized items during use.
(5) Do not attach any stickers to the key.
(6) Do not place the key near electric power supply devices.
(b) Precautions for the hybrid control system start function:
(1) Before starting the hybrid control system, firmly depress the brake pedal until the indicator of the power switch illuminates in green.
(2) After the auxiliary battery is removed and reinstalled, be sure to wait 10 seconds or more before the next hybrid control system start. The hybrid control system may not start immediately after the auxiliary battery is reinstalled.
(3) When the key battery is depleted or the key is affected by wave noise, and the key is held close to the power switch to start the hybrid control system, etc., several warnings may sound. However, the warnings most likely sound because the vehicle cannot determine if the key is in the vehicle or not, and not because there is an actual malfunction. The following warnings may sound:
1 The driver door is opened and closed:
* A warning to inform the driver that a shift state other than park (P) has been selected and the power source mode is not off.
* A warning to inform the driver that park (P) has been selected but the power source mode is not off.
2 A door other than the driver door is opened and closed:
* A warning to inform the driver that a passenger is carrying the key out of the vehicle.
(c) Precautions for the key battery and the auxiliary battery:
(1) When the doors are locked, the auxiliary battery is used to transmit a radio wave. The auxiliary battery may be fully depleted if the vehicle remains stopped for a long time. If the vehicle is not used for a long time, recharge or replace the auxiliary battery or cancel the smart access system with push-button start (for Entry Function) Smart Access System With Push-Button Start (For Entry Function).
(2) When the doors are locked and the key is in the detection area of a door antenna, the auxiliary battery is used to regulate communication between the key and vehicle. If the vehicle is not being used, keep the key away from the vehicle (more than 2 m [6.56 ft.]).
3. PRECAUTION FOR REGISTRATION
(a) If replacing any of the following parts, refer to the registration procedures Engine Immobilizer System.
NOTICE:
Any keys or ECUs for which registration has been performed cannot be reused.
(1) ID code box (immobiliser code ECU)
(2) Certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly)
(3) Transmission control ECU assembly
(4) Electrical key transmitter (key)
4. PRECAUTIONS FOR AUXILIARY BATTERY
(a) Immediately after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) terminal of the auxiliary battery terminal, the entry unlock function may not operate. If this occurs, the entry unlock function can be restored by performing a wireless door lock and unlock operation.
(b) After disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) terminal of the auxiliary battery terminal, the hybrid control system may not start on the first attempt. If this occurs, turn the power switch off. The hybrid control system will start normally from the second time onward.
(c) The vehicle continually records the power source mode. When the auxiliary battery cable is disconnected and reconnected, the power source mode returns to the mode it was in before the auxiliary battery cable was disconnected. Always turn the power switch off before disconnecting the auxiliary battery cable.
NOTICE:
If the auxiliary battery is fully depleted and the previous power source mode is unknown, be extremely careful when reconnecting the auxiliary battery cable.
