Cylinder Head Bolts
Inspection
Measure bolt length from the seat to the end
Standard length 146.8 to 148.2 mm (5.78 to 5.83 in.)
Maximum length 149.2 mm (5.87 in.)
If length is greater than maximum, replace bolt with a new one
If there is any thread deformation, replace bolt with a new one
Measure diameter of the threaded portion of the bolt at its thinnest point
Use a straightedge to determine the thinnest point
Measurement point 115 mm (4.53 in.)
Standard diameter 9.77 to 9.96 mm (0.385 to 0.392 in.)
Minimum diameter 9.4 mm (0.370 in.)
If diameter is less than minimum, replace bolt with a new one
If there is any thread deformation, replace bolt with a new one
Tightening Sequence
Step 1: Tighten bolts in several steps in sequence shown in illustration
Torque 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft-lbf)
Step 2: Tighten bolts 90° in sequence shown in Step 1
Step 3: Tighten bolts another 45° in sequence shown in Step 1
Cylinder Head Inspection
Measure contact surface warpage where the head contacts the cylinder block and manifold
Maximum Warpage
Cylinder block side 0.05 mm (0.00197 in.)
Intake manifold side 0.10 mm (0.00394 in.)
Exhaust manifold side 0.10 mm (0.00394 in.)
If warpage is more than maximum, replace the cylinder head
Camshaft Bearing Cap Bolts
Tighten 10 bolts in order shown in the illustration
Torque 16 Nm (163 kgf-cm, 12 ft-lbf)
Install camshaft housing with 17 bolts and tighten in order shown in the illustration
Torque 27 Nm (275 kgf-cm, 20 ft-lbf)
