Intake System

4GR-FSE INTAKE: INTAKE SYSTEM: ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

1. CHECK INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK (INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE)

(a) Remove the 2 nuts and V-bank cover.

(b) Inspection procedure when using the Techstream:

(1) Stop the engine.

(2) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(3) Start the engine and turn the Techstream main switch ON.

(4) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test /Active the VSV for Intake Control.

(5) Make sure that a clicking sound is heard from the intake air control valve when current flows.

(c) Inspection procedure when applying voltage between terminals:

(1) Disconnect the connector from the intake air control valve.

(2) Apply battery voltage between terminals 1 (+) and 2 (-) of the intake air control valve. Check that a clicking sound is heard from the intake air control valve.

(d) Reinstall the V-bank cover with the 2 nuts.

2. CHECK INTAKE MANIFOLD (SWIRL CONTROL VALVE)

(a) Remove the 2 nuts and V-bank cover.

(b) Check that the swirl control valve activation link (on the front of the intake manifold) is moving to confirm that the swirl control valve is operating.

(1) After the engine switch is turned off, confirm that the swirl control valve opens between approximately 10°and the fully open position.

(2) After the engine is started, confirm that the swirl control valve is fully closed with the engine idling.

(3) After the engine switch is turned off again, confirm that the swirl control valve opens between approximately 10°and the fully open position.

(c) Inspection procedure when using the Techstream:

(1) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

(2) Start the engine and turn the Techstream main switch ON.

(3) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the SCV Duty Ratio.

NOTICE:
This test procedure must be completed within 10 seconds.

(4) Check that the swirl control valve activation link moves to the left and right.

(d) Inspection procedure when applying voltage between terminals:

(1) Disconnect the connector from the swirl control valve.

(2) Alternately apply battery voltage to terminals 1 and 2 of the swirl control valve.

(3) Check that the swirl control valve activation link moves to the left and right.

(e) Measure the resistance between the terminals.

Standard resistance:

1 to 19 Ohms at 20°C (68°F)

If the result is not as specified, replace the intake manifold.
