Removal

A960E AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY: REMOVAL

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

2. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL Removal

3. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH Removal

4. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER

5. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER

6. DRAIN COOLANT Testing and Inspection

7. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID Removal

8. REMOVE NO. 1 FLOOR UNDER COVER Removal

9. REMOVE NO. 2 FLOOR UNDER COVER Removal

10. REMOVE NO. 1 REAR FLOOR PANEL BRACE Removal

11. REMOVE FRONT CENTER FLOOR BRACE Removal

12. REMOVE OXYGEN SENSOR Removal

13. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY Removal

14. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR NO. 1 HEAT INSULATOR Removal

15. REMOVE OUTSIDE AIR GUIDE PLATE RH Removal

16. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT WITH CENTER BEARING ASSEMBLY Removal

17. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH Removal

18. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY Removal

19. REMOVE FLYWHEEL HOUSING SIDE COVER

(a) Remove the flywheel housing side cover from the engine assembly.





20. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE & TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SETTING BOLT

(a) Turn the crankshaft to gain access to each bolt.





(b) Hold the crankshaft pulley bolt with a wrench and remove the 6 torque converter clutch setting bolts.

21. REMOVE NO. 1 EXHAUST PIPE SUPPORT BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the 2 bolts and No. 1 exhaust pipe support bracket sub-assembly from the automatic transmission assembly.





22. SEPARATE FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Set the shift lever to the neutral position.

(b) Remove the nut, and separate the floor shift gear shifting rod sub-assembly.





23. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

(a) Support the automatic transmission assembly with a transmission jack.





24. REMOVE ENGINE REAR MOUNTING MEMBER

(a) Remove the 4 bolts, and separate the engine rear mounting member from the body.





(b) Remove the 4 nuts and engine rear mounting member from the automatic transmission assembly.





25. SEPARATE CONNECTOR

(a) Tilt down the automatic transmission assembly.





(b) Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector, transmission wire connector and 2 transmission revolution sensor connectors.





HINT
Disengage the claw, press down the lever, and then disconnect the transmission wire connector.

26. SEPARATE WIRE HARNESS

(a) Remove the 2 bolts and separate the wire harness clamps from the automatic transmission assembly.





27. SEPARATE WATER BY-PASS HOSE

(a) Remove the bolt and water by-pass hose clamp.





(b) Separate the 2 water by-pass hoses from the transmission oil cooler.

NOTICE:
Use a container to catch any coolant which flows out of the water by-pass hoses.

28. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the 9 bolts and automatic transmission assembly.





NOTICE:
Do not use excess force to pry on the transmission assembly.

29. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR

(a) Remove the 4 bolts and rear No. 1 engine mounting insulator from the automatic transmission assembly.





30. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHAFT LEVER RH

(a) Remove the nut and transmission control shaft lever RH from the park/neutral position switch assembly.





31. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER

(a) Remove the 3 bolts and transmission oil cooler from the automatic transmission assembly.





(b) Remove the 2 O-rings.

32. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY

(a) Put matchmarks on the torque converter and transmission case.





(b) Remove the torque converter from the automatic transmission assembly.

33. INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY Testing and Inspection
