Removal





AXLE AND DIFFERENTIAL: REAR AXLE HUB: REMOVAL

HINT
* Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
* The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL

2. REMOVE NO. 2 DIFFERENTIAL SUPPORT PROTECTOR Removal

3. REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE Removal

4. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT Removal

5. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY Disassembly

6. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 DISC BRAKE CALIPER PLATE Removal

7. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING HOLE PLUG

8. REMOVE REAR DISC Removal

9. SEPARATE REAR SPEED SENSOR

(a) Remove the 2 bolts and separate the rear speed sensor.





NOTICE:
Prevent foreign matter from attaching to the sensor tip.

10. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING Disassembly

11. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING Disassembly

12. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET Disassembly

13. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY Disassembly

14. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY Disassembly

15. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Disassembly

16. SEPARATE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the 2 nuts, and separate the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly from the rear axle assembly.





17. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY Removal

18. SEPARATE TOE CONTROL LINK SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the nut.





(b) Install 2 spacers (SST spacer B) as shown in the illustration.

Clearance (A):

1 mm (0.0394 in.) or more

NOTICE:
As SST may be damaged, make sure that the clearance between the arm and spacers is less than 1 mm (0.0394 in.).

(c) Using SST, separate the toe control link sub-assembly from the rear axle assembly as shown in the illustration.

CAUTION:
Apply grease to the threads and end of the SST bolt.

NOTICE:
* Be sure to tighten the string firmly to secure SST to the toe control link sub-assembly to prevent SST from falling off.
* Install SST so that A and B are parallel.
* Be sure to place a wrench on the part indicated in the illustration.
* Make sure that SST is securely positioned on the rear axle carrier spacer.
* Be careful not to damage the rear axle carrier sub-assembly because it is made of aluminum and may be damaged easily.
* Do not damage the ball joint dust cover.

If the rear axle carrier spacer has come off, replace the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with a new one.

19. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY Removal

20. SEPARATE REAR NO. 1 UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the bolt, nut and washer, and separate the rear No. 1 upper control arm assembly from the rear axle assembly.





21. SEPARATE REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the bolt and nut, and separate the rear No. 2 suspension arm assembly from the rear axle assembly.





NOTICE:
Turn the bolt while holding the nut.

22. REMOVE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY

(a) Using a plastic hammer, separate the rear drive shaft assembly from the rear axle assembly and remove the rear axle assembly.

NOTICE:
* Be careful not to damage the boot.
* Use wire or equivalent to prevent the rear drive shaft assembly from hanging down.

23. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 WHEEL BEARING DUST DEFLECTOR

(a) Using a screwdriver, remove the rear No. 2 wheel bearing dust deflector from the rear axle assembly.





24. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY

(a) Hold the rear axle assembly between aluminium plates in a vise.

NOTICE:
Do not overtighten the vise.

(b) Remove the 4 bolts and rear axle hub and bearing assembly from the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.
