Emission Control Systems: Testing and Inspection
2UR-GSE EMISSION CONTROL: EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM: ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. VISUALLY CHECK HOSES, CONNECTORS, AND GASKETS
(a) Check that there are no cracks, leaks or damage.
NOTICE:
* Detachment or other problems with the engine oil dipstick, oil filler cap, PCV hose and other components may cause the engine to run improperly.
* Disconnection, looseness or cracks in any part of the air induction system between the throttle body and cylinder head will allow vacuum leaks and cause engine failure or engine malfunction.
If the result is not as specified, replace the parts as necessary.
2. CHECK FUEL CUT OFF/RESTART RPM
(a) Start and warm up the engine.
(b) Increase the engine speed to at least 3000 rpm.
(c) Use a sound scope to check for injector operating sounds.
(d) When the accelerator pedal is released, check that injector operating sounds stop momentarily (at 2500 rpm) and then resume (at 1400 rpm).
Standard:
If the result is not as specified, check the injectors, wiring and ECM.
3. CHECK LINE AND CONNECTORS
(a) Visually check for loose connections, kinks or damage.
4. CHECK FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY
(a) Visually check for deformation, cracks or fuel leaks.
5. CHECK FUEL CUTOFF VALVE AND FILL CHECK VALVE
(a) Disconnect the vent line hose from the canister.
(b) Connect SST (pressure gauge) to the vent hose.

(c) Fill the fuel tank with fuel.
(d) Apply pressure of 4 kPa (0.04 kgf/cm2, 0.58 psi) to the vent line hose (to fuel tank).
HINT
It is necessary to check the amount of fuel in the fuel tank. When the fuel is full, the float valve of the fill check valve is closed and no air can pass through.
(e) Remove the fuel tank cap, and check that the pressure drops.
If the pressure does not drop, replace the fuel tank assembly.
(f) Reconnect the vent line hose to the canister.
6. CHECK AIR INLET LINE
(a) Disconnect the air inlet line hose from the charcoal canister.
(b) Check that air flows freely into the air inlet line.
If air does not flow freely into the air inlet line, repair or replace it.
(c) Reconnect the air inlet line hose to the charcoal canister.
7. INSPECT EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM
(a) Start the engine.
(b) Disconnect the vacuum hose as shown in the illustration.
(c) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(d) Turn the engine switch on (IG).
(e) Turn the Techstream on.
(f) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Activate the VSV for Evap Control.
(g) Check that vacuum occurs at the VSV port.
(h) Exit Active Test mode and reconnect the vacuum hose.
(i) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / EVAP Purge VSV.
(j) Warm up the engine and drive the vehicle.
(k) Confirm that the purge VSV opens.
If the result is not as specified, replace the VSV, wire harness or ECM.
