Removal





AXLE AND DIFFERENTIAL: REAR AXLE HUB: REMOVAL

HINT
* Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
* The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL

2. REMOVE NO. 2 DIFFERENTIAL SUPPORT PROTECTOR Removal

3. REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE Removal

4. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT Removal

5. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY Disassembly

6. REMOVE REAR DISC Removal

7. SEPARATE REAR SPEED SENSOR

(a) Remove the 2 bolts and separate the rear speed sensor.





NOTICE:
Prevent foreign matter from attaching to the sensor tip.

8. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING Disassembly

9. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING Disassembly

10. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET Disassembly

11. REMOVE NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY Disassembly

12. REMOVE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY Disassembly

13. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Disassembly

14. SEPARATE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the 2 nuts, and separate the parking brake cable assembly from the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.





15. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY Removal

16. SEPARATE TOE CONTROL LINK SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Put matchmarks on the toe adjust plate and rear suspension member.





(b) Loosen the nut.

HINT
Do not remove the nut, the toe adjust plate and the toe control link sub-assembly.

(c) Remove the nut.





(d) Install 2 spacers (SST spacer B) as shown in the illustration.

A:

1 mm (0.0394 in.) or more

NOTICE:
As SST may be damaged, make sure that the clearance between the arm and spacers is less than 1 mm (0.0394 in.).

(e) Using SST, separate the toe control link sub-assembly from the rear axle carrier sub-assembly as shown in the illustration.

CAUTION:
Apply grease to the threads and end of the SST bolt.

NOTICE:
* Install SST so that A and B are parallel.
* Be sure to place a wrench on the part indicated in the illustration.
* Make sure that SST is securely positioned on the rear axle carrier spacer.
* Be careful not to damage the rear axle carrier sub-assembly because it is made of aluminum and may be damaged easily.
* Do not damage the ball joint dust cover.
* Make sure that the SST string is securely tied to the vehicle.

If the rear axle carrier spacer has come off, replace the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with a new one.

17. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY Removal

18. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY Removal

19. SEPARATE REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the bolt and nut, and separate the rear No. 2 suspension arm assembly from the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.





NOTICE:
Turn the bolt while holding the nut.

20. REMOVE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY

(a) Using a plastic hammer, separate the rear drive shaft assembly from the rear axle assembly.

NOTICE:
* Be careful not to damage the boot.
* Use wire or equivalent to prevent the rear drive shaft assembly from hanging down.

21. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 WHEEL BEARING DUST DEFLECTOR

(a) Using a screwdriver, remove the rear No. 2 wheel bearing dust deflector from the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.





22. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY

(a) Hold the axle hub and bearing assembly between aluminium plates in a vise.

NOTICE:
Do not overtighten the vise.

(b) Remove the 4 bolts, rear axle hub and bearing assembly from the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.
