DRIVE SHAFT / PROPELLER SHAFT: REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY: INSTALLATION

HINT
* Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
* The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

1. INSTALL HOLE SNAP RING

(a) Install a new hole snap ring.

2. INSTALL REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

(a) Coat the spline of the inboard joint shaft assembly with gear oil.

(b) Set the shaft snap ring with the opening side facing down.

(c) Align the shaft splines and install the drive shaft assembly with a brass bar and a hammer.





NOTICE:
* Be careful not to damage the drive shaft dust cover, boot or oil seal.
* Move the drive shaft assembly while keeping it level.

HINT
It is possible to determine if the inboard joint shaft is properly engaged (the shaft is in contact with the pinion shaft, and the snap ring is engaged in the pinion gear) based on the sound or feeling when the shaft is driven in.

(d) Install the rear drive shaft assembly to the rear axle carrier.

NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the drive shaft boot.

3. INSTALL REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY Installation

4. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY Installation

5. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 1 UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY Installation

6. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN TOE CONTROL LINK SUB-ASSEMBLY Installation

7. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 2 UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY Installation

8. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY Installation

9. INSTALL NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY Installation

10. APPLY HIGH TEMPERATURE GREASE Reassembly

11. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Reassembly

12. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY Reassembly

13. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY Reassembly

14. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET Reassembly

15. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING Reassembly

16. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING Reassembly

17. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE INSTALLATION Reassembly

18. INSTALL REAR SPEED SENSOR Installation

19. INSTALL REAR DISC Installation

20. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY Reassembly

21. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT

(a) Clean the threaded parts on the drive shaft and axle hub nut using a non-residue solvent.

NOTICE:
* Be sure to perform this work for a new drive shaft.
* Keep the threaded parts free of oil and foreign objects.

(b) Install a new rear axle shaft nut.





Torque : 290 Nm (2957 kgf-cm, 214 ft-lbf)

(c) Using a chisel and hammer, stake the rear axle shaft nut.

23. FULLY TIGHTEN TOE CONTROL LINK SUB-ASSEMBLY Installation

24. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 1 UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY Installation

25. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 2 UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY Installation

26. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY Installation

27. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY Installation

28. INSTALL REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE Installation

29. INSTALL NO. 2 DIFFERENTIAL SUPPORT PROTECTOR Installation

30. INSTALL REAR WHEEL

Torque : 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf)

31. BED IN PARKING BRAKE SHOES TO DISCS Reassembly

32. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE AND PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL Adjustments

33. INSPECT AND ADJUST REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT

Rear Wheel Alignment

34. INSPECT BRAKE WARNING LIGHT Adjustments

35. CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
