Removal





1UR-FSE ENGINE MECHANICAL: ENGINE (for AWD): REMOVAL

1. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD

2. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE Removal

3. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER Removal

4. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

NOTICE:
* w/ Navigation System (for HDD):
After the engine switch is turned off, the display and navigation module display (HDD navigation system) records various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, be sure to wait for the time specified in the following table before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

Waiting Time before Disconnecting Cable from Negative (-) Battery Terminal:





* When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Repair Instruction - Initialization.

5. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal

(a) Remove the 4 clips and engine room side cover.

(a) Remove the 4 clips and engine room side cover.





10. RECOVER REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM Service and Repair

11. REMOVE FRONT CENTER FLOOR COVER

(a) Remove the 3 screws, 2 bolts, clip and floor cover.





12. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER

(a) Remove the 4 screws, 2 clips and under cover.





13. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL OPENING EXTENSION PAD LH Removal

14. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL OPENING EXTENSION PAD RH Removal

15. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER Service and Repair

16. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER PROTECTOR LOWER

(a) Remove the 9 bolts and suspension member protector.





17. DRAIN ENGINE OIL Replacement

19. DRAIN FRONT DIFFERENTIAL OIL Testing and Inspection

20. DISCONNECT NO. 1 OIL COOLER INLET HOSE

(a) Using needle-nose pliers, grip the claws of the clip and slide the clip to disconnect the oil cooler hose.





HINT
Place a container under the connection before disconnecting the oil cooler hose because oil in the hose may spill out.

21. DISCONNECT NO. 1 OIL COOLER OUTLET HOSE

(a) Using needle-nose pliers, grip the claws of the clip and slide the clip to disconnect the oil cooler hose.

Place a container under the connection before disconnecting the oil cooler hose because oil in the hose may spill out.

22. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL

23. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER COVER

(a) Remove the front bumper cover Removal.

24. REMOVE REAR FRAME SIDE RAIL

(a) Remove the 6 bolts, 4 nuts and 2 side rails.





25. REMOVE INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE Removal

(a) Remove the outlet duct from the fan shroud and ECM box.





30. DISCONNECT NO. 1 RADIATOR HOSE

31. DISCONNECT NO. 2 RADIATOR HOSE

32. REMOVE RESONATOR BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY Replacement

33. REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT Removal

34. REMOVE ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH ASSEMBLY Removal

35. DISCONNECT NO. 3 FUEL HOSE Removal

36. DISCONNECT NO. 1 FUEL HOSE Removal

37. DISCONNECT DISCHARGE HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal

38. DISCONNECT SUCTION HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal

39. DISCONNECT HOSES AND CONNECTORS

(a) Remove the 3 bolts and ECM box cover.





(b) Disconnect the 4 TCM connectors and 2 wiring harness support connectors.





(c) Detach the 2 wiring harness support clamps, and then detach the clamp of connector A from the ECM box.

HINT
It is not necessary to disconnect the connection at A in the illustration.

(d) Lift up the wiring harness support and disconnect the 4 ECM connectors.





(e) Detach the 2 clamps. Then remove the 2 nuts and disconnect the wires with No. 1 engine room junction block.





(f) Detach the clamp and disconnect the 3 connectors with front controller.





(g) Release the locks of the power steering ECU connector A and disconnect the connectors B.





(h) Detach the 2 clamps.

(i) Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground wire.





(j) Disconnect the 2 connectors and detach the 5 clamps.





(k) Disconnect the 2 heater hoses.





(l) Disconnect the purge line hose.





40. REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the driver side knee airbag Removal.

41. REMOVE NO. 1 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Detach the 2 claws, and remove the bolt and air duct.





NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the air duct as its connection to the vehicle is very tight.

42. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY Removal

43. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the drive shaft Removal.

44. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the front exhaust pipe Removal.

45. REMOVE PROPELLER WITH CENTER BEARING SHAFT ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the propeller shaft Removal.

46. DISCONNECT FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal

47. DISCONNECT FRONT LOWER SHOCK ABSORBER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY RH

(a) Remove the bolt. Then disconnect the absorber and absorber bracket.





48. DISCONNECT FRONT LOWER SHOCK ABSORBER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

(a) Remove the bolt. Then disconnect the absorber and absorber bracket.





49. REMOVE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

(a) Place a mark (with spray, etc.) over the rear right vehicle side attachment area of the front frame, which is indicated in the illustration.





(b) Place a mark (with spray, etc.) over the rear left vehicle side attachment area of the front frame.

(c) Set an engine lifter underneath the engine.

HINT
Place the engine on wooden blocks or an equivalent so that the engine is level.

(d) Remove the 4 rear engine mounting member's bolts.





(e) Remove the 4 bolts shown in the illustration.





(f) Operate the engine lifter and slowly remove the engine from the vehicle.

NOTICE:
* Make sure that the engine is clear of all wiring and hose.
* While lowering the engine from the vehicle, do not allow it to contact the vehicle.

(g) Install the 2 engine hangers with the 2 bolts as shown in the illustration.





Torque : 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft-lbf)

HINT






(h) Attach an engine sling device and hang the engine with a chain block.





NOTICE:
When hanging the engine, make sure to hang the engine with the sling device's hanging angle at 50° or less. If not, the engine or engine hangers may be damaged.

50. REMOVE FRONT FRAME ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the 4 nuts and front frame.





51. REMOVE ENGINE OIL LEVEL DIPSTICK GUIDE

(a) Remove the dipstick.





(b) Remove the 2 bolts and dipstick guide.

(c) Remove the O-ring from the dipstick guide.

52. REMOVE GENERATOR ASSEMBLY Removal

(a) Remove the 2 nuts, 2 spacers and 2 insulators.





56. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET RH

(a) Remove the 5 bolts and mounting bracket.





57. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET LH

(a) Remove the 5 bolts and mounting bracket.





58. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY RH Removal

60. REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET RH

(a) Remove the 2 nuts and mounting bracket.





61. REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET LH

(a) Remove the 2 nuts and mounting bracket.





62. REMOVE NO. 3 EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEAT INSULATOR Removal

63. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY Removal

64. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY

(a) Put matchmarks on the transfer companion flange and the front propeller shaft.





(b) Using a screwdriver or equivalent, hold the transfer companion flange.





(c) Using a 6 mm socket hexagon wrench, loosen the 6 bolts.

NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the front propeller shaft.

(d) Put matchmarks on the front differential companion flange and the front propeller shaft.





(e) Using a screwdriver or equivalent, hold the differential companion flange.





(f) Using a 6 mm socket hexagon wrench, loosen the 6 bolts.

NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the front propeller shaft.

(g) Remove the 12 bolts, 4 constant velocity universal joint washers and front propeller shaft assembly.

65. REMOVE OIL COOLER TUBE Removal

66. REMOVE NO. 3 COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal

67. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR Removal

68. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY Removal

69. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND RING GEAR SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Using SST, hold the crankshaft.

(b) Remove the 10 bolts, rear spacer plate, drive plate and sensor rotor.





70. INSTALL ENGINE ON ENGINE STAND

(a) Install the engine onto an engine stand with the bolts.

(b) Remove the 2 bolts and 2 engine hangers.

71. DISCONNECT COOLER COMPRESSOR ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and 2 stud bolts and disconnect the cooler compressor.





72. REMOVE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY Removal

73. REMOVE NO. 5 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal

74. REMOVE NO. 6 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal

75. REMOVE ENGINE WIRE

(a) for Engine LH Side:

(1) Disconnect the camshaft timing control valve connector.





(2) Disconnect the 4 ignition coil connectors.

(3) Disconnect the 2 VVT sensor connectors.

(4) Disconnect the fuel pump connector (for high pressure).

(5) Disconnect the No. 8 engine wire connector.

(6) Disconnect the 4 wire harness clamps.

(b) for Engine Front Side:

(1) Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor connector.





(2) Disconnect the 2 camshaft timing control motor connectors (for Bank 1).

(3) Disconnect the 2 camshaft timing control motor connectors (for Bank 2).

(4) Remove the 3 bolts and disconnect the clamp and ground wire.

(5) Remove the bolt and clamp bracket.

(c) for Engine RH Side:

(1) Disconnect the camshaft timing control valve connector.





(2) Disconnect the 4 ignition coil connectors.

(3) Disconnect the 2 VVT sensor connectors.

(4) Disconnect the fuel pump connector (for high pressure).

(5) Disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector.

(6) Detach the 4 wire harness clamps.

(7) Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor connector.

(8) Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the engine oil level sensor connector.

(d) for Engine Rear Side:

(1) Disconnect the engine wire connector.





(2) Disconnect the fuel relief valve connector.

(3) Detach the 8 wire harness clamps.

(4) Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the ground wire.

(e) Disconnect the throttle body connector.

(f) Disconnect the 8 injector driver connectors and detach the 2 clips as shown in the illustration.





(g) Disconnect the purge VSV connector.





(h) Disconnect the intake air control valve actuator connector.

(i) Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the 2 clamp brackets and 2 clamps.

(j) Remove the 4 nuts and engine wire.

(a) Detach the 5 clamps and remove the 2 bolts and engine wire.





(b) Disconnect the 4 knock sensor connectors.

(a) Remove the engine cover.

(a) Remove the bolt and idler pulley.

(a) Using needle-nose pliers, grip the claws of the clip and slide the clip to disconnect the water by-pass hose and water inlet hose.





(b) Remove the 3 bolts, water inlet housing and gasket.





109. REMOVE ENGINE OIL LEVEL SENSOR Removal
