Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge Malfunction

METER: METER / GAUGE SYSTEM: Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge Malfunction
- Engine Coolant Temperature Gauge Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

In this circuit, the No. 1 meter ECU receives engine coolant temperature signals from the ECM using CAN communication lines. The No. 1 meter ECU displays an engine coolant temperature that is calculated based on the data received from the ECM.

WIRING DIAGRAM

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT
If there is an open or short in the engine coolant temperature sensor circuit, an SFI system DTC is output. If output, perform troubleshooting on the SFI system first.

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

(a) Check the DTC Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Result

B -- Go to CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM CAN Communication System
A -- Continue to next step.

2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (COOLANT TEMPERATURE RECEIVER GAUGE)

(a) Operate the Techstream according to the display and select "Active Test".

OK:

Needle indication is normal.

Combination Meter:

HINT
Confirm that the vehicle is stopped and engine is idling.

NG -- REPLACE NO. 1 METER ECU Disassembly
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (COOLANT TEMPERATURE)

(a) Operate the Techstream according to the display and select "Data List".

OK:

Coolant temperature displayed on Techstream is between 80°C (176°F) and 95°C (203°F) after warming up.

Combination Meter:

NG -- READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (WATER TEMPERATURE)

OK -- REPLACE NO. 1 METER ECU Disassembly

4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (WATER TEMPERATURE)

(a) Operate the Techstream according to the display and select "Data List".

OK:

Engine coolant temperature value displayed on Techstream is almost the same as actual engine coolant temperature.

Engine:

NG -- Go to SFI SYSTEM Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
OK -- Continue to next step.

5. REPLACE NO. 1 METER ECU

(a) Temporarily replace the No. 1 meter ECU with a new one Disassembly.

NEXT -- Continue to next step.

6. CHECK NO. 1 METER ECU

(a) Check the operation of the combination meter returns to normal Operation Check.

OK:

Operation of combination meter returns to normal.

NG -- REPLACE ECM Removal

OK -- END (NO. 1 METER ECU IS DEFECTIVE)
