Installation
AXLE: FRONT AXLE HUB (for AWD): INSTALLATION
HINT
* Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.
* The procedures listed below are for the LH side.
* A bolt without a torque specification is shown in the standard bolt chart Standard Bolt - Specified Torque For Standard Bolts.
1. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Install the front axle hub to the steering knuckle with the 4 bolts.
Torque : 65 Nm (663 kgf-cm, 48 ft-lbf)
2. INSTALL STEERING KNUCKLE SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Connect the splines of the steering knuckle LH and drive shaft assembly.
(b) Install the steering knuckle to the front lower ball joint with the 3 bolts.
Torque : 113 Nm (1149 kgf-cm, 83 ft-lbf)
3. CONNECT FRONT NO. 1 SUSPENSION UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Install the steering knuckle to the front No. 1 suspension upper arm with the nut.
Torque : 60 Nm (612 kgf-cm, 44 ft-lbf)
(b) Install new clips.
NOTICE:
If it is necessary to align the holes for the clips after installing the nuts, the nuts can be tightened up to 60° more.
4. CONNECT FRONT NO. 2 SUSPENSION UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Install the steering knuckle to the front No. 2 suspension upper arm with the nut.
Torque : 60 Nm (612 kgf-cm, 44 ft-lbf)
(b) Install new clips.
NOTICE:
If it is necessary to align the holes for the clips after installing the nuts, the nuts can be tightened up to 60° more.
5. CONNECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Connect the tie rod to the steering knuckle with the nut.
Torque : 60 Nm (612 kgf-cm, 44 ft-lbf)
(b) Install new clips.
NOTICE:
If it is necessary to align the holes for the clips after installing the nuts, the nuts can be tightened up to 60° more.
6. INSTALL FRONT SPEED SENSOR LH
(a) Install the speed sensor to the steering knuckle with the bolt.
Torque : 8.5 Nm (87 kgf-cm, 75 in-lbf)
NOTICE:
* Do not damage the tip of the speed sensor.
* Do not allow foreign matter to contact the tip or installation area of the speed sensor.
7. CONNECT SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE
(a) Connect the front speed sensor connector.
(b) Install the sensor clamp to the steering knuckle LH with the bolt.
Torque : 8.5 Nm (87 kgf-cm, 75 in-lbf)
NOTICE:
Do not twist the skid control sensor wire.
8. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE DUST COVER LH
(a) Install the front disc brake dust cover with the 4 bolts.
Torque : 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 in-lbf)
9. INSTALL FRONT DISC Installation
10. CONNECT FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Install the front disc brake caliper to the steering knuckle with 2 new bolts.
Torque : 135 Nm (1377 kgf-cm, 100 ft-lbf)
NOTICE:
* Do not twist the flexible hose.
* Make sure the threaded parts are free from foreign matter and are not damaged.
* Be careful not to overtighten the bolts, as the steering knuckle is made of aluminum.
(b) Connect the flexible hose to the steering knuckle with the bolt.
Torque : 20 Nm (204 kgf-cm, 15 ft-lbf)
11. INSTALL FRONT AXLE SHAFT NUT LH
(a) Clean the threaded parts on the drive shaft and axle shaft nut using a non-residue solvent.
NOTICE:
* Be sure to perform this work for a new drive shaft.
* Keep the threaded parts free of oil and foreign objects.
(b) Using a 30 mm socket wrench, install a new axle shaft nut.
Torque : 294 Nm (2998 kgf-cm, 217 ft-lbf)
NOTICE:
Do not stake the shaft nut.
HINT
Stake the shaft nut after the axle hub bearing looseness and axle hub runout inspections.
12. DISCONNECT FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH Removal
13. REMOVE FRONT DISC Removal
14. INSPECT FRONT AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS Front Axle Hub
15. INSPECT FRONT AXLE HUB RUNOUT Front Axle Hub
16. INSTALL FRONT DISC Installation
17. CONNECT FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Install the front disc brake caliper to the steering knuckle with 2 new bolts.
Torque : 135 Nm (1377 kgf-cm, 100 ft-lbf)
NOTICE:
* Do not twist the flexible hose.
* Make sure the threaded parts are free from foreign matter and are not damaged.
* Be careful not to overtighten the bolts, as the steering knuckle is made of aluminum.
(b) Connect the flexible hose to the steering knuckle with the bolt.
Torque : 20 Nm (204 kgf-cm, 15 ft-lbf)
18. STAKE FRONT AXLE SHAFT NUT LH
(a) Using a chisel and hammer, stake the front axle shaft nut.
19. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL
Torque : 140 Nm (1428 kgf-cm, 103 ft-lbf)
20. INSPECT AND ADJUST FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT
(a) Inspect and adjust the front wheel alignment Front Wheel Alignment.
21. CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
(a) Check the speed sensor signal Test Mode Procedure.
22. ADJUST VEHICLE HEIGHT
(a) Adjust the vehicle height Adjustments.
23. ADJUST HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY
(a) Adjust the headlight Adjustments.
