Removal

DRIVE SHAFT: FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for AWD): REMOVAL

1. DRAIN DIFFERENTIAL OIL Testing and Inspection

2. REMOVE FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY LH

(a) Remove the front axle assembly LH Removal.

3. REMOVE FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY RH

HINT
Use the same procedures described for the LH side.

4. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY LH

(a) Using SST, remove the front drive shaft assembly.

NOTICE:
* Be careful not to damage the drive shaft boot, dust cover and oil seal.
* Be careful not to drop the drive shaft assembly.

5. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY RH





(a) Remove the bolt and disconnect the wire harness bracket.

(b) Using water pump pliers, remove the bearing bracket hole snap ring.





(c) Remove the bolt and front drive shaft assembly from the drive shaft bearing bracket.

NOTICE:
* Be careful not to damage the drive shaft boot, dust cover and oil seal.
* Be careful not to drop the drive shaft assembly.

6. INSPECT FRONT DRIVE SHAFT

(a) Check that there is no excessive play in the outboard joint.





(b) Check that the inboard joint slides smoothly in the thrust direction.

(c) Check that there is no excessive play in the radial directions of the inboard joint.

(d) Check the boot for damage.
