2UR-FSE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM: SFI SYSTEM: P0545, P0546, P0548, P0549, P2032, P2033, P2035, P2036: Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit Low (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
P2036 - Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit High (Bank 2 Sensor 2)
DESCRIPTION
The four exhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensors are located on the hydro-carbon absorber catalyst (HCAC).
The engine control module (ECM) applies the 5-volt reference voltage to the EGT sensor. The sensor changes the voltage between 0.1 V and 4.9 V according to the EGT. The ECM uses the EGT sensors to monitor the HCAC valve operation.
MONITOR DESCRIPTION
To monitor the EGT sensor, the ECM measures the sensor voltage. If the sensor voltage deviates from the normal operating range, the ECM interprets this as a malfunction. When this malfunction is detected in consecutive driving cycles, the ECM illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) and sets the diagnosis trouble code (DTC).

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
2. Turn the power switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.
3. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC operation).
4. Turn the power switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
5. Turn the power switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.
6. Put the engine in inspection mode Component Tests and General Diagnostics.
7. Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature reaches 75°C (167°F) or more].
8. Idle the engine for 5 minutes or more.
9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
10. Read the pending DTCs.
HINT
- If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
- If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
11. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.
12. Input the DTC: P0545, P0546, P0548, P0549, P2032, P2033, P2035 or P2036.
13. Check the DTC judgment result.
f the test result is INCOMPLETE or N/A and no DTC is output, perform a universal trip and check for permanent DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
HINT
- If a permanent DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
- If no permanent DTC is output, the system is normal.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT
- Bank 1 refers to the bank that includes the No. 1 cylinder*.
*: The No. 1 cylinder is the cylinder which is farthest from the transmission.
- Bank 2 refers to the bank that does not include the No. 1 cylinder.
- Sensor 1 refers to the sensor closest to the engine assembly.
- Sensor 2 refers to the sensor farthest away from the engine assembly.
PROCEDURE
1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Put the engine in inspection mode Inspection Mode Procedure.
(c) Turn the Techstream ON.

(e) Read the value.
Standard:
Same as the actual exhaust gas temperature.
Result:
HINT
- If there is a short circuit, the Techstream will indicate -40°C (-40°F).
- If there is an open circuit, the Techstream will indicate 1000°C (1832°F).
