Axle Differential Assembly-Coil Suspension

Removal
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the rear wheel and tire assemblies.





3. Index-mark the driveshaft flange and pinion flange for correct alignment during installation.





4. Remove the bolts and disconnect the driveshaft.
- Wire the driveshaft aside.





5. Disconnect the electrical connector.





6. Disconnect the parking brake cable and conduit from the rear wheel disc brake adapter.
- Repeat for the other side.





7. Remove the rear disc brake caliper and position it out of the way.
- Repeat for the other side.





8. Remove the brake disc.
- Repeat for the other side.





9. Remove the bolts.
- Repeat for the other side.





10. Loosen the nut.
- Repeat for the other side.





11. Install jack stands beneath the rear axle and lower the vehicle so that the axle rests on the jack stands.
- Place a third jack stand under the front of the differential housing.





12. Remove the bolt retaining the rear axle tracking bar to the bracket.





13. Position the rear axle tracking bar out of the way.





14. Remove the jounce bumper.
- Repeat for the other side.





15. Remove the nut and bolt.
- Repeat for the other side.





16. Remove the nut and bolt and position the rear suspension arm and bushing out of the way.
- Repeat for the other side.





17. Remove the nut and bolt retaining the shock absorber to the axle.
- Repeat for the other side.





18. Disconnect the vent hose.

19. CAUTION: Carry out this step with an assistant to keep the axle clear of obstructions while raising the vehicle.

Raise the vehicle until clear of the rear axle.





20. Remove both rear springs.

Installation





1. CAUTION: Carry out this step with the aid of an assistant.

Position the rear axle on jack stands under the vehicle.
- Place a third jack stand under the front of the differential housing. The front of the differential housing must point slightly upward to allow the control arms to clear the rear axle when lowering the vehicle.





2. Lower the vehicle slightly and install both rear springs.

3. CAUTION: Constantly check that the rear springs seat correctly.

Gradually lower the vehicle onto the axle.
- Watch for obstructions.





4. Note: Position the rear disc brake caliper and brake line before installing the bolt and nut.

Position the rear suspension upper front arm and bushing and install the bolt and nut.
- Repeat for the other side.





5. Position the rear suspension arm and bushing and install the bolt and nut.
- Repeat for the other side.





6. Install the bolt and nut retaining the shock absorber to the axle.
- Repeat for the other side.





7. CAUTION: The rear axle must rest on the jack stands to keep the vehicle as close to ride height as possible.

Tighten the bolt.
- Repeat for the other side.





8. Tighten the bolt.
- Repeat for the other side.
9. Raise the vehicle.





10. Position the rear axle tracking bar in the bracket and install the bolt. Tighten the bolt to specification.





11. Connect the vent hose.





12. Install and tighten the bolts.
- Repeat for the other side.





13. Tighten the nut.
- Repeat for the other side.





14. Tighten the bolt retaining the shock absorber to the axle.





15. CAUTION: Align the index marks.

Connect the driveshaft.
16. Lower the vehicle partially.





17. Install the jounce bumper.
- Repeat for the other side.





18. Install the parking brake rear cable and conduit.
- Repeat for the other side.





19. Install the brake disc.
- Repeat for the other side.
20. Install the rear disc brake caliper.
21. Install the rear wheel and tire assemblies.





22. Connect the electrical connector.
23. Lower the vehicle.
