Axle Differential Assembly-Air Suspension

Removal

1. WARNING: Do not under any circumstance remove an air spring when there is pressure in the air spring. Do not remove any components supporting an air spring without either exhausting the air or providing support for the air spring. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury and vehicle damage.

WARNING: The electrical power to the air suspension system must be shut off prior to hoisting, jacking or towing an air suspension vehicle. This can be accomplished by turning off the air suspension switch located in the RH kick panel area. Failure to do so can result in unexpected inflation or deflation of the air springs, which can result in shifting of the vehicle during these operations. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury and vehicle damage.

Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the rear wheel and tire assemblies.





3. Index-mark the driveshaft flange and pinion flange for correct alignment during installation.





4. Remove the bolts and disconnect the driveshaft.
- Wire the driveshaft aside.





5. Disconnect the electrical connector.





6. Disconnect the parking brake cable and conduit from the rear wheel disc brake adapter.
- Repeat for the other side.





7. Remove the rear disc brake caliper and position it out of the way.
- Repeat for the other side.





8. Remove the brake disc.
- Repeat for the other side.





9. Remove the bolts.
- Repeat for the other side.





10. Loosen the nut.
- Repeat for the other side.





11. Disconnect the air suspension height sensor.





12. WARNING: Use extra straps to secure the rear axle to the jack. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

Install a suitable hydraulic jack under the differential housing.





13. Remove the bolt retaining the rear axle tracking bar to the bracket.





14. Position the rear axle tracking bar out of the way.





15. Remove the jounce bumper.
- Repeat for the other side.





16. Remove the nut and bolt retaining the rear suspension upper front arm and bushing to the axle.
- Repeat for the other side.





17. Remove the nut and bolt and position the rear suspension arm and bushing out of the way.
- Repeat for the other side.





18. Remove the nut and bolt retaining the shock absorber to the axle.
- Repeat for the other side.





19. Disconnect the vent hose.

20. CAUTION: Watch for obstructions.

Lower the jack until the rear axle clears the vehicle.

Installation





1. WARNING: Use extra straps to secure the rear axle to the jack. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

Using a suitable hydraulic jack, raise the rear axle into place.





2. Position the rear suspension upper front arm and bushing and install the bolt and nut.
- Repeat for the other side.





3. Position the rear suspension arm and bushing and install the bolt and nut.
- Repeat for the other side.





4. Raise the rear axle with the jack until the rear suspension arm and bushings are parallel to the ground and install the bolt and nut retaining the shock absorber to the axle.
- Repeat for the other side.





5. Tighten the bolt.
- Repeat for the other side.





6. Tighten the bolt.
- Repeat for the other side.





7. Position the rear axle tracking bar in the bracket and install the bolt. Tighten the bolt to specification.





8. Connect the vent hose.





9. Install and tighten the bolts.
- Repeat for the other side.





10. Tighten the nut.
- Repeat for the other side.





11. Tighten the bolt.
- Repeat for the other side.
12. Remove the jack.





13. CAUTION: Align the index marks.

Connect the driveshaft.
14. Lower the vehicle partially.





15. Install the jounce bumper.
- Repeat for the other side.





16. Install the parking brake rear cable and conduit.
- Repeat for the other side.





17. Install the brake disc.
- Repeat for the other side.
18. Install the rear disc brake caliper.
- Repeat for the other side.
19. Install the rear wheel and tire assemblies.





20. Connect the air suspension height sensor.





21. Connect the electrical connector at the anti-lock speed sensor.
22. Lower the vehicle.
23. Turn on the air suspension control switch.
