Axle Differential Assembly-Coil Suspension
Removal1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the rear wheel and tire assembly.
3. Mark the driveshaft flange and pinion flange for correct alignment during installation.
4. Remove the four driveshaft bolts, and disconnect the driveshaft.
- Wire the driveshaft aside.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector.
6. Disconnect the parking brake rear cable and conduit from the rear wheel disc brake adapter.
- Repeat for the other side.
7. Remove the rear disc brake caliper, and position it out of the way.
- Repeat for the other side.
8. Remove the brake disc.
- Repeat for the other side.
9. Remove the rear stabilizer bar retainer bolts.
- Repeat for the other side.
10. Loosen the rear stabilizer bar links and bushings.
11. Install jack stands beneath the rear axle and lower the vehicle onto the jack stands.
- Place a third jack stand under the front of the rear axle housing.
12. Remove the rear axle tracking bar assembly retainer bolt, and position the rear axle tracking bar out of the way.
13. Remove the jounce bumper.
- Repeat for the other side.
14. Remove the rear suspension upper front arm and bushing retainer bolt.
- Repeat for the other side.
15. Remove the rear suspension arm and bushing retainer bolt, and position the rear suspension arm and bushing out of the way.
- Repeat for the other side.
16. Remove the lower shock absorber retainer bolt.
- Repeat for the other side.
17. Remove the rear axle housing vent hose.
18. CAUTION: This step requires an assistant to keep the axle clear of obstructions while the vehicle is being raised.
Raise the vehicle clear of the rear axle.
19. Remove both rear springs.
Installation
1. CAUTION: This step requires the aid of an assistant.
Position the rear axle on jack stands under the vehicle.
- Place a third jack stand under the front of the carrier so that it points slightly upward. This will allow the control arms to clear the rear axle when the vehicle is lowered.
2. Position the vehicle over the rear axle.
3. Install both rear springs.
4. CAUTION: Make sure to constantly check that the rear springs are seating correctly.
Gradually lower the vehicle onto the axle.
- Watch for obstructions.
5. Note: Position the rear disc brake caliper and brake line before installing the retainer bolt and nut.
Position the rear suspension upper front arm and bushing, and install the retainer bolt and nut.
- Repeat for the other side.
6. Position the rear suspension arm and bushing and install the retainer bolt.
- Repeat for the other side.
7. Install the lower shock absorber retainer bolts.
8. CAUTION: This step should be done with the rear axle resting on jack stands to keep the vehicle as close to ride height as possible.
Tighten the rear suspension arm and bushing.
- Repeat for the other side.
9. Tighten the rear suspension upper front arm and bushing retainer bolt.
- Repeat for the other side.
10. Raise the vehicle, position the rear axle tracking bar in the bracket, install the retainer bolt and tighten it.
11. Connect the rear axle housing vent hose.
12. Install and tighten the rear stabilizer bar retainer bolts on both sides.
13. Tighten the rear stabilizer bar links and bushings on both sides.
14. Tighten the lower shock absorber retainer bolts on both sides.
15. Install the driveshaft, and tighten the retainer capscrews.
16. Partially lower the vehicle.
17. Install the jounce bumper retainer bolts and tighten.
- Repeat for the other side.
18. Connect the parking brake rear cable and conduit.
- Repeat for the other side.
19. Install the brake disc.
- Repeat for the other side.
20. Install the rear disc brake caliper.
- Repeat for the other side.
21. Install the wheels and tires.
22. Connect the electrical connector.
23. Lower the vehicle.
