Principles of Operation (How Does It Work?)
When a keyless entry remote transmitter switch is depressed, it transmits a radio signal to the Remote Anti-Theft Personality (RAP) module, which, in turn, grounds the coil circuit for the all door lock relay, the all door unlock relay or the liftgate unlock relay. The appropriate relay then closes and completes the power circuit to the respective door lock actuators. If the panic switch is depressed on the remote keyless entry transmitter, the RAP module will trigger the panic feature. When a keyless entry keypad switch is depressed, it completes the respective circuit to the key switch common circuit, which then signals the RAP module that a particular number key switch has been depressed. If the appropriate sequence of keyless entry keypad switches are depressed, the RAP module will then lock or unlock all the doors, unlock the driver door or unlock the liftgate.
The vehicle's autolock feature is controlled by the RAP module, which will lock the door when the RAP receives a signal from the Anti-Lock Brake Module System (ABS) (by means of the vehicle's wheel speed sensors) indicating that the vehicle's speed has exceeded five miles per hour. In addition, the following conditions must be met for the autolock feature to engage: the doors must be closed, as indicated by a signal from the GEM; the transmission must be in reverse, drive, low or neutral, as indicated by a signal from the GEM; and the ignition switch must be in the RUN position.
When the RAP module receives an unlock command from the keyless entry remote transmitter and the memory seat function is enabled, it sends a signal to the Driver Seat Module (DSM) indicating which keyless entry remote transmitter is being used (one or two). The DSM then adjusts the driver seat and mirrors according to the preset position information.
When the keyless entry remote transmitter unlock switch is depressed and it sends an unlock command to the RAP module, the RAP module then sends a signal to the GEM, which then initiates the illuminated entry feature.
In all the previously indicated instances where the RAP sends or receives information to or from other modules, the information transfer process takes place over the Standard Corporate Protocol (SCP) link.
