Installation

INSTALLATION

CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.

1. Align and position the instrument panel with the clips in the sheet metal.

NOTE: This step requires an assistant.







2. Install the instrument panel cowl top bolts.







3. Install the instrument panel defroster grille assembly.







4. Install the LH instrument panel cowl side nut.







5. Install the RH instrument panel cowl side nut.







6. Install the instrument panel floor brace.
1 Install the upper instrument panel floor brace bolt.
2 Tighten the instrument panel floor brace bolts and nut.

NOTE:
^ To prevent squeaks or rattles, install and tighten the upper instrument panel floor brace bolt first, and then tighten the floor brace bolts and nut.
^ Reposition the carpet after this step is performed.







7. Install the instrument panel reinforcement bolt below the LH corner of the glove compartment.







8. Install the instrument panel bolt on the relay bracket.







9. Install the instrument panel bolts through the passenger side air bag module opening.
^ Install the RH bolt first.







10. Install the passenger side air bag module.
1 Position the passenger side air bag module.
2 Install the bolts.
3 Connect the electrical connector.

WARNING:
^ NEVER PROBE THE CONNECTORS ON THE AIR BAGS. DOING SO MAY RESULT IN AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, WHICH COULD RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.
^ ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN REPAIRING AN AIR BAG VEHICLE AND WHEN HANDLING AN AIR BAG.
^ CARRY A LIVE AIR BAG WITH THE BAG AND TRIM COVER POINTED AWAY FROM YOUR BODY. AN ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT WILL THEN DEPLOY WITH A MINIMAL CHANCE OF INJURY.

11. Install the glove compartment. For additional information, refer to Glove Compartment.







12. Install the instrument panel relay cover.
1 If equipped, connect the sunload sensor electrical connector.
2 If equipped, connect the autolamp sensor electrical connector.
3 Install the instrument panel relay cover.







13. Connect the in-line antenna connector.







14. If equipped, connect the EATC hose to the evaporator case.







15. Connect the blower motor electrical connector.







16. Connect the RH instrument panel main harness connectors.
^ Insert all the wiring harness locators into the cowl side panel.







17. If equipped, connect the air suspension switch electrical connector.







18. Install the RH ground bolt.







19. Connect the inertia fuel shutoff switch electrical connector.







20. Install the instrument panel reinforcement bolt below the LH corner of the cigar lighter and power point.







21. Install the instrument panel bolts through the steering column opening.







22. Position the steering column.
^ Install the steering column support nuts.







23. Connect the transmission range indicator to the steering column.
1 Connect the cable.
2 Install the bolt.







24. Connect the remaining electrical connectors on the steering column.







25. Connect the (A) air bag sliding contact electrical connectors and the (B) anti-theft sensor electrical connector.







26. Install the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.
1 Position the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.
2 Install the nuts.







27. Connect the LH instrument panel main wiring harness connectors and the bulkhead connector.
1 Connect the LH instrument panel main wiring harness connectors and the bulkhead connector.
2 Tighten the bolt.
^ Insert the main wiring harness locators.







28. Connect the radio ground and the GEM/CTM ground bolts.







29. If equipped, connect the adjustable pedal motor harness electrical connector.







30. If equipped, connect the adjustable pedal motor electrical connector.







31. Connect the BPP switch electrical connector.
^ Insert the wiring harness locator.







32. Install the LH and RH windshield side garnish mouldings.
^ If equipped, on the LH windshield garnish moulding connect the cellular phone hands-free microphone electrical connector.







33. Install the RH and LH assist handles.
1 Position the assist handle.
2 Install the bolts and the covers.







34. Install the LH and RH A-pillar lower trim panels.







35. Install the LH and RH door weatherstrip seals.







36. Install the LH and RH scuff plates.







37. Connect the climate control head vacuum harness connector.







38. Connect the electronic blend door actuator electrical connector.
^ Insert the wiring harness locators.







39. Connect the RCM electrical connector.
1 Connect the RCM electrical connector.
2 Engage the locking tab.
^ Insert the wiring harness locators.







40. Install the valance panel.
^ Install the two pin-type retainers and insert the expander clip.

41. Install the lower instrument panel steering column cover. For additional information, refer to Instrument Panel-Steering Column Cover.
42. If equipped, install the floor console. For additional information, refer to Console-Floor, Front.







43. Clip the bulkhead electrical connectors into the dash panel.







44. Install the bulkhead electrical connector insulator.







45. Connect the bulkhead wiring harness connectors.
1 Connect the bulkhead wiring harness connectors.
2 Tighten the bolts.







46. Install the BJB into the mounting tabs.
47. Connect the battery cables.
48. Adjust the transmission range indicator. For additional information, refer to Shift Linkage, A/T.
