Removal and Installation
Removal1. Turn the steering wheel to the straight ahead position and turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute to allow depletion of the restraint system backup power supply.
3. WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings, cautions and notes in the deactivation procedure.
Deactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
4. Remove the clockspring.
5. Remove the instrument panel opening cover support.
1 Remove the nuts.
2 Remove the instrument panel opening cover support.
6. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
1 Remove the bolt.
2 Disconnect the electrical connector.
7. Remove the transmission range indicator from the steering column.
1 Remove the bolt.
2 Remove the indicator.
8. Remove the steering column shaft bolt.
1 Remove the steering column shaft pinch bolt.
2 Slide the intermediate shaft off at the steering column.
9. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
10. Lower the steering column.
1 Remove the nuts.
2 Lower the steering column.
11. Disconnect the wiring at the parking brake release switch, if so equipped.
12. Disconnect the shift cable from the steering column and remove the steering column.
1 Disconnect the shift cable from the steering column shift tube lever.
2 Disconnect the shift cable from the steering column instrument panel bracket.
Installation
1. Connect the shift cable to the steering column.
1 Connect the shift cable to the steering column instrument panel bracket.
2 Connect the shift cable to the shift tube lever.
2. Connect the wiring at the parking brake release switch, if so equipped.
3. Position the steering column and install the nuts.
4. Install the steering column shaft bolt.
5. Install the electrical connectors.
6. Install the transmission range indicator.
1 Install the indicator cable.
2 Install the bolt.
7. Connect the ignition switch electrical connector and install the bolt. Tighten to specification.
8. Position the instrument panel opening cover support and install the nuts.
9. Install the clockspring.

Reactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
