LOW SPEED STEERING SHUDDER

LINCOLN:
2003-2005 Aviator

ISSUE
Some 2003-2005 Aviator vehicles may exhibit a steering wheel shudder during low-speed turning maneuvers. The condition will vary according to ambient temperature, road surface friction, and steering wheel turning speed.

ACTION
It may be necessary to replace the steering-gear-to-fluid-cooler return hose and evacuate air from the power steering system. Refer to the following Service Procedure.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Verify the condition with the engine running, brakes applied vehicle in gear by rotating the steering wheel from stop to stop. If the condition is verified, replace the steering-gear-to-fluid-cooler return hose, refer to Section 211-02 of the 2005 Workshop Manual. Perform a thorough evacuation of air from the power steering system after replacement of parts per Section 211-00 of the 2005 Workshop Manual.
