Power Locks: Description and Operation
HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMSThe hood consists of the following components:
- hood latch
- hood latch striker
- hood latch control handle and cable
- secondary hood latch release handle
The front doors consist of the following components:
- front door latch push button rods
- exterior door handles
- door lock cylinder
- front door latches
- door lock actuators
- door ajar switches
- front door carrier assembly
- interior door handles
- door lock control switches
The rear doors consist of the following components:
- exterior door handles
- rear door latches
- child lock bezels
- door lock actuators
- door ajar switches
- rear door carrier assembly
- interior door handles
- rear door latch push button rods
The liftgate consists of the following components:
- liftgate window glass latch
- door lock actuator (power liftgate only)
- liftgate latch
- liftgate handle
- liftgate latch remote control (power liftgate only)
- liftgate ajar switch
- chime module (power liftgate only)
The remote keyless entry (RKE) system consists of the following components:
- vehicle security module
- RKE keypad
- RKE transmitter
The door locks are controlled by the vehicle security module.
The RKE transmitter initiates the following electronic door lock system functions:
- unlock the driver door
- unlock all doors
- lock all doors
- enable the panic alarm
- sound the horn once when LOCK on the RKE transmitter is pressed twice, and the doors are closed
- sound the horn twice when LOCK on the RKE transmitter is pressed twice, and any door or the liftgate window is ajar
- allow up to 6 RKE transmitters to be programmed
- release the liftgate glass
- issue a command to open the power liftgate (if equipped)
The RKE transmitter has a minimum operating range of 10 m (33 feet).
The RKE transmitter can be programmed using a diagnostic tool or by using the ignition lock cylinder.
The RKE transmitters are reprogrammable and all must be set at the same time.
To confirm that the doors have been locked, press the LOCK button again, within 3 seconds of the first press. The horn sounds once if the doors have locked and all doors are closed.
To activate the panic alarm:
- Press the red PANIC button on the RKE transmitter. The horn sounds and the parking lamps flash for a maximum of 2 minutes and 45 seconds.
To deactivate the panic alarm:
- Press the red PANIC button again on the RKE transmitter.
- Turn the key to RUN/ACC.
The RKE keypad can be used to unlock the driver door, lock and unlock all the doors and the liftgate, or release the liftgate glass. It also lights the RKE keypad lamp, allows one user code to be programmed, and issues illuminated entry on/off requests to the vehicle security module when locking and unlocking.
The system (permanent) entry code is located on the owner's wallet card in the glove box; it is also electronically accessible using a diagnostic tool, and it is located on the vehicle security module housing.
The vehicle security module is programmed at the factory with a 5-digit entry code. A new vehicle security module includes a new owner's code card.
To turn on the interior lamps, enter a valid key code.
