Vacuum Brake Booster: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove air cleaner.
2. Disconnect vacuum hose from power brake unit check valve.
3. Disconnect brake lines from master cylinder, then remove two nuts attaching master cylinder to power brake unit and remove master cylinder.
4. Working from under instrument panel, disconnect stop lamp switch wire connector, then remove clip and washer from brake pedal pin. Slide brake lamp switch off brake pedal pin just far enough for outer arm to clear pin, then remove switch. Slide power brake pushrod and washer from brake pedal pin.
5. On models equipped with speed control, remove amplifier unit from lower power brake unit mounting stud.
6. Move power brake unit forward until studs clear dash panel, then remove unit.
7. Reverse procedure to install.
