EFI and CFI fuel push connect retainers have an engagement "tab" that locks into the connector base. The tab is non-functional after assembly.

When line connector disassembly is required, it will be necessary to break away the engagement tabs with small pliers or side cutters (Figure 18). After removal, the retainer clip must not be reused. A new retainer clip must be installed in the connector prior to reconnecting the fuel lines. Refer to the 1983 Car Shop Manual - Powertrain Section 24-50 for complete service information.
