83ford20 Article No. 83-6-6NOISE - SQUEAK/GRUNT - COLD WEATHER - FRONT SUSPENSION STABILIZER BAR INSULATOR
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1982-83 CONTINENTAL
This article outlines procedure to service a front suspension stabilizer bar insulator noise by installing new teflon-lined insulators.
Some Continental vehicles built prior to 1/15/83 may exhibit a "squeak or grunt" noise from the stabilizer bar insulators when cold. This condition can be serviced using the following procedure:
1. Remove the front stabilizer bar assembly as outlined in the 1983 Shop Manual, Section 14-05.
2. Clean the bar of contaminants using Ford Spot Remover (Part No. B7A-19521-A) or equivalent.
3. Replace the two (2) stabilizer bar insulators with two (2) E35Y-5493-A Teflon-lined insulators.
4. Reinstall the stabilizer bar in the vehicle.
If it is necessary to lubricate the insulators to install them, use only Ford Rubber Suspension Insulator Lubricant (Part No. E25Y-19553-A).
