Some of these vehicles built through February 15, 1983, can exhibit a clunk noise which can also be felt in the steering column when accelerating or braking. Following is the service procedure to eliminate this condition.
Refer to Section 17-02 of the 1983 Powertrain Shop Manual for the recommended service procedure and tools.
Servicing this condition requires removing the blue colored grommet from the Transmission Shift Selector Bellcrank assembly (Part No. 7G051 of Figure 2 on Page 17-02-2 of the Shop Manual) and replacing it with a new, orange colored grommet (Part No. E3SZ- 7C327-A).
