FUEL INJECTORS - LEAK TEST PROCEDURE

FORD 1983 CROWN VICTORIA WITH 5.0L ENGINE

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1983 LINCOLN, MARK, CONTINENTAL, GRAND MARQUIS WITH 5.OL ENGINE

CALIBRATIONS: All with C.F.I.

Use the following procedure to test for fuel injector leakage:

1. Remove air cleaner.
2. Pressurize fuel system by turning key on and off five times with one-second periods on before switching off.

WARNING: IF FUEL STARTS LEAKING OR INJECTORS DISCHARGE, IMMEDIATELY TURN KEY OFF AND PROCEED TO STEP #5.

3. Visually observe injector for any sign of fuel leakage.
4. If no leakage is observed or if leakage is less than one drop of fuel in one minute, then injectors are O.K.
5. If leakage is greater than one drop of fuel per minute, then disconnect electrical connectors from both injectors.
6. Re-pressurize fuel system using same procedure as step 2 above.
7. Visually observe injectors again for leakage.
8. If no leakage is observed or if leakage is less than one drop of fuel in one minute, then injectors are O.K. Check for improper electrical signal to injector. Refer to the 1983 Engine Diagnosis Manual Section 24-52 and 53.

CAUTION: DO NOT APPLY VOLTAGE DIRECTLY TO INJECTIONS, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, AS A MEANS FOR TESTING. TO DO SO WILL DAMAGE THE INJECTOR.

9. If leakage is still greater than one drop per minute, then replace leaking injector(s).
