Turn the ignition switch on and verify proper operation of the wipers in low speed. When the wipers pass the vertical (straight up) position, turn the wiper switch to OFF. The wipers should complete the cycle and park below the windshield. If the wipers do not operate properly, refer to appropriate symptom and test as indicated.
Wiper Motor Connections:
MOTOR STOPS WHEN SWITCH IS TURNED OFF (DOES NOT COMPLETE CYCLE)
1. Remove motor park switch connector and check for battery voltage on circuit 65 (dark green wire).
^ If voltage is present, go to step 2
^ If voltage is not present, trace and repair open in circuit.
2. Check continuity between the wiper motor housing and the negative battery terminal.
^ If ground is sufficient, go to step 3.
^ If ground is not present or insufficient, check the park switch cover screws and motor ground strap.
3. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect both wiper motor connectors. Check for continuity between circuits 28 and 56 in the wiring harness.
^ If continuity is OK, leave the connectors disconnected and go to step 4.
^ If open, trace and repair open in wiring harness.
4. Check for continuity between pin 28 on the wiper motor and ground.
^ If continuity is OK, go to step 5.
^ If open, service wiper motor park switch.
5. Check for continuity between circuits 61 and 63 of the wiring harness.
^ If continuity is OK, go to step 6.
^ If open, trace and repair open circuit as necessary. If open in circuit is traced to the interval governor, go to step 7.
6. Check for continuity between pins 63 and 65 on the wiper motor.
^ If open, replace wiper motor park switch.
7. Check wiper switch for continuity between terminals P and G.
^ If continuity is present, replace the governor.
^ If open, replace the wiper switch.
WIPER BLADES DEPRESS PARK, BUT MOTOR CONTINUES TO RUN
Service wiper motor park switch.
WIPER BLADES STALL OR JAM WHILE GOING FROM PARK TO DEPRESSED PARK (BELOW WINDSHIELD) POSITION
1. Check linkage for binding or obstructions.
2. Service wiper motor arm and windlatch assembly.
WIPER BLADES COMPLETE CYCLE, START ANOTHER CYCLE, THEN PARK IN MIDDLE OF WINDSHIELD, OR
WIPER BLADES RUN CONTINUOUSLY IN OFF OR INTERVAL POSITIONS, OR
WIPER BLADES RUN TO BOTTOM OF WINDSHIELD BUT WILL NOT PARK BELOW WINDSHIELD
1. Perform Wiper Switch Continuity Test.
2. Check circuit 941 for voltage (wash circuit).
^ If voltage is present, trace and repair circuit for short to voltage supply.
^ If voltage is not present, go to step 3.
3. Disconnect wiper motor connectors and check for continuity between circuits 61 and 63 going to the interval governor.
^ If open, replace the governor.
^ If continuity is present, service the wiper motor park switch.
