LATCH - DECK LID POWER PULL DOWN PROPER ADJUSTMENT
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1984 MARK VII, CONTINENTAL, LINCOLN TOWN CAR
Power pull down latches that continuously cycle and/or recatch should be adjusted as follows:
Tension Bar Adjustment
The luggage compartment power latch will relatch itself if the pop up distance of the luggage compartment door is inadequate, i.e., the door should have sufficient finger clearance to assure normal opening cycle, If the door opening is inadequate, the torsion rod tension should be increased in accordance with instructions shown in the 1984 Car Shop Manual, Volumes "A" and "B", Section 44-41.
NOTE: Torsion bars must be replaced if the adjustment is already set at the maximum tension notch.
FIGURE 6:
Power Pull Down Latch to Actuator Striker Alignment
Correct adjustment procedures for the power pull down latch is described in the 1984 Car Shop Manual "A" and "B" Section 44-41; However, if continuous latch cycling occurs inspect the alignment of the latch to the actuator striker to assure proper switch contact and shut off. Continuous cycling of the power latch is usually caused by misalignment of the latch striker. Figure 6 indicates correct alignment of the latch and actuator striker.
Luggage Compartment Door Margins
Dealers performing service on luggage compartment door margins must be aware of the alignment requirement for the power pull down latch compartment door to maintain margins to the quarter panel. The margins should not be aligned without checking the critical alignment of the latch to the actuator striker. The power pull down latch must be inspected and adjusted as necessary prior to functioning the luggage compartment door to assure the critical latch to striker alignment is maintained (Figure 6).
