SUSPENSION - AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM - DIAGNOSIS AND SERVICE

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1984 MARK VII, CONTINENTAL

The 1984 Mark VII/Continental vehicles utilize air springs at the four wheel locations in place of conventional coil springs. This article is a reminder of the precautions you should employ whenever diagnosis or service is required to the air suspension system or other chassis components.

It is important first to shut off the electrical power supply to the system then to hoist (jack) the vehicle at body frame locations and not at suspension members. This will ensure that the suspension is unloaded and in full rebound position. If this is not done, the vehicle or suspension component could shift suddenly due to unexpected inflation or deflation of the air springs. Such a shift could result in vehicle/component damage or personal injury.
