Driver's Seat - Relocation

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1982/83/84 CONTINENTAL
This article supersedes TSB article 82-4-6 and 82-24-1. Relocation of driver's seat rearward. To meet the personal requirements and specific request of customers for additional leg room the following service procedure may be performed.
1. Remove the seat and track assembly from the vehicle as outlined in part 41-08 of the appropriate 1982 Car Shop Manual.
2. Place the seat and track assembly upside down on a clean work surface.
3. Disconnect the power seat switch to seat track wire harness connectors.
4. Remove the seat track side shields.

5. Remove the four (4) screws retaining the seat track to the seat cushion, two (2) of which are to be discarded. Then, remove the seat tracks.
NOTE: In the seat cushion frame, there are three
(3) existing sets of seat track rear at- taching holes, and two (2) drill dimples (1 each side) located 20 mm (.87 in.) forward of the existing seat track front attaching holes (Figure 5).
6. Drill a 5/16" diameter hole at each drill dimple location.

7. Position the seat track assembly over the newly drilled front attaching holes and the center set of the existing rear attaching holes. (Figure 6).
8. Install two (2) washers (382580-S100) between the front seat track and the front seat cushion at each front seat track attaching hole as shown in Figure 6.
9. Install the specified longer attaching screws (N611196-S39) and nut washer assemblies (N800251-S36) at only the front seat track to cushion frame attachments. Install two (2) of the previously removed seat track attaching screws at the rear seat track attachments. (Figure 6) Torque the attaching screws and nuts to 12-24 N-m (9-18 ft.lbs.).
10. Install the seat track side shields.
11. Connect the power seat switch to seat track motor wire harness.
12. Place the seat and track assembly in the vehicle slightly forward of the seat track to floor pan attaching holes/studs to facilitate the inboard seat belt and power seat track/seat sensor wire harness connectors.
13. Install the inboard seat belt and torque the attaching bolt to 30-43 N-m (22-32 ft.lbs.)
14. Connect the power seat track/seat sensor wire harness connectors.
15. Position the seat and track assembly over the seat track to floor pan attaching holes/studs then, install the previously removed seat track to floor pan attaching screws and the nut and washer assemblies. Torque the attaching screws and nut and washer assemblies to 25-44 N-m (18-32 ft.lbs.).
16. Check the power seat track and the power mirror for proper operation.
