To reduce the cost of repair, the use of octane rods (-12A335-) to adjust ignition timing is being discontinued. When directed to install an octane rod by previous Technical Service Bulletins, the initial timing should now be reset using a timing light and manually rotating the distributor. The initial timing should only be retarded either 3~ or 6~ as specified by the Technical Service Bulletin. Do not retard initial timing more than 6~ from the base initial timing specified for the calibration.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This procedure supersedes all previous TSB's/TSL 's specifying octane rod change for universal distributors.
