MESSAGE CENTER - LOW FUEL ECONOMY INDICATION
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1984 LINCOLN CONTINENTAL WITH EEC III ENGINE CONTROL AND "CALIFORNIA ONLY" CALIBRATIONS
Some lower normal average fuel economy indications (8-11 MPG) may be caused by an incorrect wiring assembly installed on some California only vehicles with EEC III engine control system. Approximately 650 California only Continental vehicles built between 10/15/83 and 12/13/83 are suspect of being shipped with the incorrect wiring assembly.
To preclude the possibility of improper symptom diagnosis and unnecessary replacement, the service technician should first verify the Message Center wiring using the identification and service procedure below.
The Message Center "Self-Test" can be used to quickly identify any EEC III California only Continental vehicles with improper Message Center wiring:
^ Enter "Self-Test" by pressing the Clock (1) button and the Miles (km) button simultaneously.
^ Press the Miles (km) button.
