REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Starter Removal
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove bolt holding dipstick tube to the intake manifold.
3. Remove wires from the starter solenoid (Fig. 1).
4. Remove front starter support bracket (Fig. 1).
5. Remove two starter to torque converter housing bolts (Fig. 1, View A).
6. Pull dipstick tube outward slightly to improve starter motor removal.
7. Remove starter motor.
Installation
1. Position starter to torque converter housing and install the two bolts. Tighten to 41-54 N-m (30-40 lb.ft.).
2. Install starter support bracket and tighten attaching bolts to 19-27 N-m (14-20 lb.ft.).
3. Connect cables to starter solenoid. Tighten red wire to 9-13 N-m (80-120 lb.in.). Tighten black wire to 3 N-m (25 lb.in.).
4. Reposition the dipstick to the intake manifold, install bolt and tighten to 8-9 N-m (6-7 lb.ft.).
5. Install battery ground cable.
6. Check starter operation.
