SPEED CONTROL - SURGING AT LOW SPEEDS, WITH 5.0L ENGINE

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1984 MARK VII, CONTINENTAL

The subject vehicles may exhibit a drive related symptom of surging ("jerky") changes of 1 to 2 mph in vehicle speed when the speed control is engaged at lower speeds (30-40 mph). This surging would not be apparent when driving at the same speeds manually (foot pedal control).

The speed control servo assembly used on the 1984 Mark VII and Continental has a long stroke (1-3/8") which may be sensitive to speed corrections at lower speeds before overdrive is engaged. This condition can be corrected by replacing the servo and cable assembly with parts listed below.
