LINCOLN-MERCURY 1984 MARK VII
This TSB is published to update the 1984 Body Chassis Electrical Shop Manual, Volume B. Due to the late program changes, all 1984 Mark VII vehicles are equipped with dual aerodynamic headlamp systems. The four headlamp (or quad) small rectangular bulb system was cancelled. Headlamp doors are not used on the dual aero system. Please make the following changes in your 1984 Shop Manual. Updated procedure for removal
and installation of the aerodynamic headlamps is also included.

Additionally, the note on page 32-02-11 should read:
NOTE: A correctly aimed headlamp normally need not be re-aimed after installation of this bulb. A burned out bulb should not be removed from the headlamp reflector until just before a replacement bulb is to be installed. Removal of a bulb for an extended period of time may allow contaminants (dust, moisture, smoke, etc.) to enter the headlamp body and affect the performance of the headlamp. When servicing the headlamp bulb, energize the bulb only while it is contained within the headlamp body.
Instructions: Removal and Installation of Aerodynamic Headlamp
Removal and Installation of Mark VII Aerodynamic Headlamp
Refer to Figure 4 and 5 of Page 32-02-12.
1. Position the headlamp switch in the OFF position.
2. Remove the electrical connector from the bulb by pulling it rearward.
3. Remove three nut and washer assemblies from the rear of the headlamp assembly (Figure 5).
4. Remove the headlamp assembly by pushing forward on the bulb and socket assembly. For ease of removal, it may be necessary to loosen the attachments of the adjacent parking lamp and cornering lamp assemblies.
5. Remove the three clips which attach the headlamp to the black ring assembly by prying them out from the base using a flat bladed screwdriver. This completes the removal of the headlamp. Save clips for installation of new headlamp.
6. To reinstall the aerodynamic headlamp, check that the black rubber shield is securely crimped to the headlamp, then reverse the above procedure.
7. After reinstalling the headlamp, check the headlamp aim and adjust as necessary. If mechanical headlamp aimers are used, the aerodynamic aimer adapters, located in the luggage compartment kit, must be used.
8. Turn headlamp switch ON and observe headlamps for proper operation.
Cleaning of the Aerodynamic Headlamp
When cleaning the headlamps, do not use steel wool or abrasive type cleaners. Use Ford Wash and Wax Concentrate, or equivalent, diluted to the proper concentration followed by a rinse with clear cold water.
