Compass/Thermometer - Erratic Operation
84ford13 Article No. 84-13-2COMPASS/THERMOMETER - ERRATIC OPERATION
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1984 CONTINENTA/MARK VII
Compass/thermometer modules may exhibit the following flashing indication:
S E + N which means SET NORTH. When this occurs, the unit must be calibrated (TSB 83-25). Nothing else will correct this concern (a replacement module still has to be calibrated).
The calibration procedure is as follows:
1. Point the vehicle magnetic North (leaving engine running).
2. Depress large compass button and left recessed button simultaneously and release.
The display will stop flashing and freeze SET N. Within two minutes, the display will flash SET W.
3. Point the vehicle toward magnetic west (leave engine running).
4. Depress only the left recessed button and release. The display will freeze SET W. Within two minutes, the display will read W and the current temperature. The compass thermometer is now calibrated.
CAUTION: VERIFY ACTUAL COMPASS "ERRATIC OPERATION" BEFORE REPLACING. THE COMPASS MAY ONLY NEED RECALIBRATING.
