SHEET METAL - SERVICE ONLY QUARTER PANELS - ROOF SIDE OUTER RAIL SOUND INSULATOR DAMAGE


LINCOLN-MERCURY 1984 MARK VII

The roof side outer rail sound insulator is damaged in the "E" coat oven when service only quarter panel assemblies are processed. To preclude this damage the insulator will now be serviced separately and will be deleted from the quarter panels. The new service part numbers are included with this article.

In the event of replacing an entire quarter panel or sectioning the area where the insulator is located, as shown in Figure 1, install the insulator as follows:

1. Thoroughly clean and dry the area for installation of the insulator.
2. Position the insulator, adhesive side down and "rub in" to assure retention.
3. Prior to final welding or brazing after the insulator has been installed, heat dam the insulator with wet asbestos or equivalent material to prevent the vinyl foam insulator from being damaged.
