Article No. 85-10-9BRAKES - ANTI-LOCK - PUMP MOTOR SERVICE
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1985 MARK VII AND CONTINENTAL
If the pump motor shorts out to the motor casing (hot wire grounded to the casing), current will flow from the motor casing to the pump housing and through the high pressure hose to ground. This condition may cause damage to the hose that is not obvious but will affect the durability of the hose.
To prevent the continued use of a damaged hose, always install a new high pressure hose when replacing a pump motor that has shorted out to the motor casing.
In the near future, a new hose will be released which will be insulated from the pump, eliminating the path to ground and the need for a hose replacement. Information will be published at that time.
