Article No. 85-8-9

EEC IV - QUICK TEST - 5.0L - INCORRECT CONTINUOUS CODES

FORD 1984-85 CROWN VICTORIA

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1984-85 GRAND MARQUIS, CONTINENTAL, LINCOLN

CALIBRATIONS: All with EEC IV

WARNING: This modification is authorized only for the listed engines. Performing this modification on other engine calibrations is unauthorized and could create liability under applicable federal or local laws.

Continuous (memory) self-test codes are repeated (appear twice in sequence) for each self-test. These memory codes should be repeated in kind and in sequence. If the repeated code does not agree with the first code, use the first codes to diagnose the vehicle condition. Ignore the last code.

During Key On Engine Off Quick Test some repeated continuous service codes may be incorrect. The repeated continuous service codes should be ignored due to processing incompatibility of certain combination of codes.

The Key On Engine Off codes are output as follows:

^ Fast codes
^ On demand codes
^ Initial codes
^ Repeat codes
^ Separator pulse
^ Continuous codes
^ Initial codes (service these codes)
^ Repeat codes (ignore these codes)

This problem is inherent in the programming of the processor and will not affect operation. Replacing the processor will not correct this condition.
