The subject conditions may be caused by lean fuel/ air ratios and can be serviced by installing a restrictor in the EGR valve vacuum line to reduce EGR and by adjusting the pressure regulator to increase fuel pressure.
Figure 9:
Check the vacuum source at EGR valve for the presence of a yellow plastic connector with a .030" restrictor. If no yellow connector is present, install the connector, part no. D9ZZ-12A225-A, as shown in Figure 9.
Check the fuel pressure regulator can on the throttle body for a "black ink" mark on top of the can or part no. E55E-9C973-EB, located at rear of throttle body assembly. If the regulator can/throttle body does not contain either the black mark or the part number shown above, adjust the fuel pressure at the regulator as follows: Remove the plug at the top of the regulator and turn allen screw two turns clockwise. Install a new plug, part no. E0AY-9E938-A.
