VIBRATION - HIGH SPEED AND STEERING WHEEL NIBBLE

LINCOLN-MERCURY 1985 MARK VII LSC

Figure 15 - TIRE:

A new cast aluminum wheel assembly, E4LY-1007-B, with an off-set pilot hole and bolt circle is released for the 1985 Mark VII LSC vehicles to reduce vehicle shake and steering wheel nibble concerns. This new cast aluminum wheel assembly is identified with a "O" stamped on the casting surface in the bolt circle area and in line with the valve stem hole in the wheel rim. The hub cap must be removed to view the "O" stamp (Figure 15). This off-set design allows for the proper indexing of the high point of the tire (chartreuse paint dot or paper stick label) on the tire outer side wall to the low point of the wheel at the valve stem. This will provide the tire/wheel relationship for the lowest radial runout value.

If concerns are encountered in the field with this new cast aluminum wheel assembly, refer to TSB 85-1-13, dated 1/10/85.

If concerns still exist, contact the tire manufacture for assistance. If a tire replacement is required, the chartreuse paint dot on the outer sidewall should be indexed to the wheel valve stem.
