DISPLAYS UNUSUALLY HIGH TEMPERATURE READINGS (+15 DEGREES OR GREATER ABOVE AMBIENT)
LINCOLN-MERCURY 1985 MARK VII
Vehicles built between December 1, 1984, and January 1, 1985, may exhibit unusually high temperature readings (+15 degrees or greater above actual ambient temperature) because of a faulty sensor.
Some temperature sensors were built into vehicles without having an epoxy filled cavity which encloses the thermistor. Road salt spray may accumulate around the thermistor which decreases the resistance and affects the temperature reading.
If the above condition is encountered in vehicles built from December 1, 1984, through January 15, 1985, remove the temperature sensor, which is mounted under the hood in front of the radiator, and replace it with an E4LY-15A022-B sensor.
