LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1984-87 LINCOLN TOWN CAR

ISSUE: Loose and/or missing wire wheel ornaments on 1984-87 Lincoln Town Cars may be caused by the ornament retention tabs bending and/or breaking off.

ACTION: To correct this, install a new design ornament that bolts on the wheel. Refer to the following service procedure for installation.

1. Remove wheel from vehicle.

2. Remove old ornament if it is still on the wheel.

3. lnstall new ornament (E7LY-1130-B) with stud by inserting the tabs on the ornament into the slots in the wheel and rotating the ornament approximately 1/4 turn clockwise until it clicks into place, Figure 4.

4. Being careful not to damage the ornament, turn the wheel over and put the large washer on the ornament stud from the back side of the wheel.

NOTE: Excessive torque on the nut will pull threads out of the plastic.

5. Put a drop of Ford Threadlock and Sealer (EOAZ- 19554-AA) or equivalent on the nut and snug the nut down on the washer.

6. Reassemble wheel on vehicle.
